Just took her out from storage today after 11 years. She still sings.

Always been interested in getting an R8 or 9. Maybe even a 7.
How I go through Les Paul headstocks though, I just can't bring myself to buy another.
Sounds really nice, what pickups are in it? Classic 57's?

Year 2006 model
Washed Cherry VOS Plain top finish
VOS aged hardware

type of pickups??? (haven’t been under the hood)
Bumble Bee caps and vintage CTS RI pots
Holly head stock veneer
One-piece mahogany neck
50’s, very comfortable chunky neck profile
Long neck tenon
9.08 Lbs. in weight
Includes the stock Gibson Custom Shop case with key
Includes original (unused) Gibson Custom Shop Gold Warranty registration

9lbs, another light Les Paul. Reinforcing my belief that weight has nothing to do with tone. I bought a Standard Faded off a guy on these forums a few years back. The only guitars I have that are lighter are my Mosrite and JR DC. I've a 72 Custom that weighs a tonne. Had to stop using it live, it was hurting my back and I'm not a small fella.

Which reminds me, I must ring my mate up and see if I can have it back yet.

Here's my Standard Faded. Upgraded the pickups to Bare Knuckles PG's. And the bridge/tailpiece to Faber locking. (way better than the Tonepro's one)

here's my Custom, still got the original T-Tops in it. Gorgeous sounding humbucker that. The last of Gibsons PAF's. They stopped putting the stickers on, after them.

Nine pounds seems a bit heavy for a VOS re-issue. My Historic Shop R9 flametop from '94 barely tips the scales at a skosh over eight.

nikininja,

Those are some great looking les paul you got there. I agree, heavier weight doesn't always guarantee the guitar will sound better. When I play my R8, I often have to sit down and play her on my lap. At 9 lbs. she can feel much heavier after about 30 minutes playing standing up. I can really feel it on my left shoulder.

Not at all.

It's just that I associate any LP over around 8½ lbs with Gibson's more modern incarnations. My one-owner "touring" Les Paul Standard from 1978 weighs over ten pounds and compared to my R9 is like the proverbial ball and chain. But it sounds so damn good that I hate to think of parting with it.

Awesomely cool guitar, though. What year is it? (1972 -- I went back and read a little closer and am answering my own question. Thanks!)

Yes a 72, so it's the same age as me. I really need to get it back off my friend soon. Got it for a good price too, £1800. Which is about what a second hand modern Custom fetches in the UK. It had been neck broke and badly repaired before I bought it. I broke the neck falling offstage New Years Eve, 2014/15. So it broke on the bad repair and I had the reason to put it right.
