After 31 years of hand-crafting guitars in the old Gibson factory at 225 Parsons Street in Kalamazoo, MI, Heritage Guitars has been sold effective April 1st.

Heritage Guitars SOLD !!

Heritage Guitars

Though the new, local, owners say there are no major changes planned in the foreseeable future, and with the 3 original founders (all former 30+ yr. Gibson employees) staying on in advisory roles, the direct link with Gibson has been broken.

The potential for increased appreciation of 'original' Heritage Guitars has already been noted by several vintage instrument sellers.

If you've ever thought of purchasing a Heritage Guitar, now would seem to be the time to do so (sorry Fender).

Cheers!

I do believe they made some basses many moons ago, but I haven't seen any around anywhere in a long time, if at all.

Odds are, they won't be able to resist the urge to move production off-shore.

:(

I suppose that would depend on who bought them out. I wouldn't be surprised if they leveled that factory and put in some condos and/or a Starbucks. :P

Or what the employees themselves can do. The Ovation/Fender Acoustic Custom Shop/Jackson factory in Connecticut that Fender closed and sold got re-opened, mostly thanks to former employees that continued to do maintenance without pay, while working hard to get the company up and running again. I hope the luthiers in Kalamazoo can swing something too.

It's their second go-around if they do. That's where Heritage came from... the remnants of the 102 year-old Gibson factory/crew when Gibson moved operations to Nashville in 1985 to, among other things, 'bust the union'...

Cheers!
