This discussion of opiates, opioids, and those who use/abuse them is quite enlightening but apparently all for naught because it's being reported now that Prince died of AIDS, not a drug overdose......

Warm up your keyboards, gents -- this ought to be good for another ten or twelve pages of speculative posts.

While certainly possible, the source is the National Inquirer... not exactly my go-to news source.

Let's wait to see how this as well as all the other possibilities unfold in the coming weeks/months.

The likeliest possibility is that none of us will ever know the real or entire truth. There are many forces at play which all have a stake in how this develops... all with their own agendas... all with their own 'truths'.

In the end, most will believe what they want to believe and each will have plenty of anecdotal information to back them up...

Sad really...

Cheers!

CNN has recently reported that Prince's meds in question were not prescribed!

This reported in the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

"This week, Michael Padden, an attorney for Prince’s siblings, told the Star Tribune that Prince had “substantial” problems with opioid painkiller Percocet and cocaine for at least a decade...."

Cheers!

From CNN:

"If a person is killed by something obvious such as a knife or gun, or if the person is older or has been sick with cancer, the medical examiner may determine cause of death quickly. When there are no obvious signs of trauma or suicide, the medical examination may be much more involved.

In Prince's case, the medical examiner's office decided to run a full toxicology scan that could take weeks. Toxicology tests are typically what takes the longest to run in a death investigation. "

I think it is just lousy how within seemingly 48 hours of his death, the autopsy is done, he is cremated, and a small private memorial is held .... AND days later the purple jacket from Purple Rain is already on eBay. Prince was an institution -- kinda like Michael Jackson -- and the fans should be allowed into the grieving process. The Michael Jackson death was handled much better than Prince's. And I find it all very sad...

I agree with your sentiment, but it raises a question:

Do the Fans really own him... even after Death... ??

Cheers!

I am not sure the fans owned him even before his death. My point is that for someone that became a larger-than-life institution -- like Prince -- who was wayyy beyond being "just another artist", the "estate" (whatever that is) should recognize this and there should be some allowance for the fans. The fans created "the institution" and the millions that "the estate" is going to split up. Hence, there should at least be a modicum of recognition of that... That is all I am saying.

Do not grieve. Prince may be dead but his ten thousand sons, daughters, siblings, step-siblings, half-siblings, half-wits, nit-wits, dim-wits, inlaws, outlaws, and scofflaws are all alive and well and will soon commence their own world-class performance as they jockey for a piece of the late-and-intestate superstar's goodies.

The show will go on, mark my words.

Arjay

Very sorry I'm late to this. I just want to say RIP Prince. You were an entertainer to the end.

not all of us are entertained by "tabloid journalism" Arjay. How did the AIDS story pan out? Funny it still hasn't hit the mainstream news.

The story continues. It has been announced that there is an inmate (on a weapons charge) in a Colorado prison that is claiming to be Prince's son, and he claims that his mother had met Prince in Missouri. A judge had previously ordered samples of Prince's blood for comparison should it be required. Under Minnesota law, a son or daughter would receive the full inheritance.
