I know he practically lived in his studio and constantly recorded. Apparently, there were 100's of songs recorded that no one has heard yet, if they ever will.

They will. Never underestimate the greed of estates, nor the lack of respect by fans. Even when it has been an artist's expressed will - even in the will - that something is not to be released to the public, it always is.

True. Look at how many recordings Jimi Hendrix has put out and he's been dead for almost 46 years.

How prophetic. Thanks for that, brotherdave.

I too have always believed that Prince was not given the spotlight in all of the areas he found himself in. He was a musicians' musician, and a true artist that had it all musically, performance wise, live or recorded.

It always amazes me that there will always be newcomers who discover a world renowned genius like Prince only after passing. On the other hand it's great how the music lives on.

When the Beatles first began I didn't fall all over their songs like my mates. I knew they were good, but it wasn't until later, as they progressed, that I discovered the Beatles were greater than my first impressions.

With Prince, for me, I saw something special from the get go. As a drummer I took to Sheila E., thanks to his vision. Great dancers, backups, music, and look. He didn't disappoint. I'm certain that there will be some gems in the vault collection that he has been gathering for years. He definitely left a mark that is permanent, and that is for the man as well as his profession.

Peace.

Heartbroken over the news that Prince has passed. Been a huge fan since the beginning. I saw him in '82 in Hampton, VA. Hampton Coliseum. Amazing performer.
Ironically the other night I ordered a Ferrari red EVH Wolfgang standard online and it came yesterday. The box was labelled Ferrari red when I opened it it was a purple quilt top. I was disappointed because I wanted the red and was going to send it back. About 10 minutes later my wife called and told me Prince had died. I'm keeping it. Played While My Guitar Gently Weeps all evening on my purple guitar. Bittersweet.

“Now cracks a noble heart. Good-night, sweet Prince;
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. ” W. Shakespeare

Somebody once asked Eric Clapton how it was to be labeled the best guitarist in the world. His response was " I don't know, go ask Prince ! " RIP Prince.

The real causes of his death remain a mystery. Some believe he suffered from a severe form of flu forcing him to cancel two gigs. RIP Purple Master.

I'll reserve final judgement until the autopsy and toxicology reports come back. Whether or not we ever learn the entire background story as to the reasons for his opioid use is simply a matter of time.

It's unfortunate that. like so many others, an obviously gifted, talented, and creative force has been stilled through such circumstances.

If you understood, from my point of view, the backflips and handsprings those of us in the medical community are obliged to have to perform in order to enjoy the priviledge of applying opioids to the expressed purposes for which they were designed, you can understand my frustration when something like this happens.

Just say'in!

Doc

I usually don't make these types of comments, but I will in this case ... Great post, dude.

Sounds good, so why jump to the conclusion that opiods may be to blame, then?

First of all, opioids were designed to give people a high. The incidental side effect of killing pain was exploited later.
Secondly, we're privileged to live in a country where there are only two types of pain killers, NSAIDs and opioids. Where other countries have had a couple of other choices for 20-40 years now, big pharma has so far succeeded in denying the new types of drugs which according to all studies have fewer side effects and are less lethal than opioids.
To top it off, the only strong opioid that is not habit forming is illegal here in the US for anything except treating drug abuse. A doctor can give you morphine for severe pain, but can't give you fast-acting sublingual buprenorphin until you've been on addictive opioids long enough to make you addicted. It's so backwards.
Yes, I'm one of the Americans who go to Europe for serious medical treatments. American medicine as it's practised lags a couple of generations behind the rest of the world. No one dares to be the first to offer anything, due to the fear of lawsuits. And the insurance companies have the doctors by the short and curlies.

Anyhow, back on topic, there are many speculations as to the root and acute causes of Prince's death. I wouldn't want to try to speculate on either. At least he put a mark on the world, and at least he lived more than twice as long as the 27 club. I'm thankful for what he did produce, and that's all I'm going to judge him over.
