Prince may be dead but his ten thousand sons, daughters, siblings, step-siblings, half-siblings, half-wits, nit-wits, dim-wits, inlaws, outlaws, and scofflaws are all alive and well and will soon commence their own world-class performance as they jockey for a piece of the late-and-intestate superstar's goodies.

The show will go on, mark my words.

The story continues. It has been announced that there is an inmate (on a weapons charge) in a Colorado prison that is claiming to be Prince's son, and he claims that his mother had met Prince in Missouri. A judge had previously ordered samples of Prince's blood for comparison should it be required. Under Minnesota law, a son or daughter would receive the full inheritance.

I don't know much about Prince's remaining family.....all rushing in to claim their share, but it's kinda funny that an uknown bastard child may get the whole kit and kabootle.
Would make for a good song.

As many of you have no doubt heard by now, the story continues as it is now officially reported that Prince died of self administered Fentanyl (opioid) toxicity and accidental overdose. Whether it was used with other medicinals or not hasn't been and may not be released for public knowledge. Street names for this drug are China White or China Girl. Scientific names are Actic and Duragesic. Overdoses in the last year are up 80% from drugs like this. Pharmacies and hospital theft along with illegal labs place it in circulation. Fentanyl is added to heroin to cut it and to provide a kick. It is so potent that just 1/4 of a milligram can be fatal.

The who and what of distribution will be the next direction for the authorities to investigate.

In my opinion, this was death by religion. He allegedly had excruciating pain in both hips, but would not have hip replacement surgery due to refusing blood transfusions for religious reasons. So he went the pain killer route instead, and likely needed higher and higher doses as his body adjusted.
But no matter what, it was his choice.

I agree.

"Longtime friend and collaborator Sheila E. has told the AP that Prince had physical issues from performing, citing hip and knee problems that she said came from years of jumping off risers and stage speakers"

I agree.

I personally aint buyin it. It's not like he's had years of basketball or football abuse.
I think Prince simply liked being buzzed, but it eventually required too much meds to achieve a buzz without the side effects.

The lack of empathy here and the need to assign to assign blame is disheartening to me. It is astonishing to me how people are so quick to assume a "long time understanding" of someone they don't know based on just a few sound bites from People magazine.

He did what he thought was right for himself. Right, or wrong, it was his choice.

People often cite religious liberty as one of the things that is fundamental to any sort of liberty, yet they arrogantly belittle another's faith...and often misunderstanding what that other person's faith entails.

Jehovah's Witnesses do not refuse all medical treatment. We refuse one specific medical treatment.
We refuse blood transfusions--whole blood or major components such as packed red blood cells or plasma.

We do not refuse blood volume expanders, or medications that can build up the blood (such as EPO).

In our faith, it is a matter of conscience whether to accept the use of a heart/lung bypass machine, a cell saver or an external blood pump, as long as the blood stays in a continuous loop with the body--not removed and stored for a period of time outside the body.

We accept and seek medical care, and only refuse one specific treatment. That is not fanatical, nor is it fatalistic. It is a reasonable response to the Bible's law of "abstaining from blood." (Acts 15:29)

There are many doctors and medical facilities that now specialize in "bloodless" surgery--even cardiac bypass surgeries and organ transplants are possible without the use of a blood transfusions. Many doctors have seen that the shorter recovery times, fewer contraindications and fewer infections make the bloodless techniques more feasible.

I don't know why Prince did not get the needed surgery.
Perhaps he thought he could manage the pain and put off the (common) after effects of hip or knee surgery (lowered mobility, flexibility, etc.).
Perhaps he was afraid.
Perhaps his surgeon refused until he got his pharmaceutical addiction under control (obviously his heart couldn't handle the issue) or perhaps it was a secondary medical issue that has not been reported.

Either way, I agree with Strings that we should show some respect to the man.

So? I respect any man to believe what he wants, whether it's that they're criminals banished by a yellow pudding overlord on a remote planet, or that John Frum will return and bring prosperity, or that the world was created by the cow Audhumbla, or that someone allowing himself to be killed (but only temporarily - how hollow is thy sacrifice!) will atone for other people's bad acts, or that middle-aged women are abducted by UFOs for sexual experimentation, that it's better to die than to get a blood transfusion, or any other outrageous beliefs children of any age may have. They're all equally protected rights to believe, and I'm strongly against any kind of thought police.

But I also reserve the right to call it poppycock, balderdash, tripe and utter folly.

I respect your right to believe anything you like, but I most certainly do not respect what you believe. Nor should I have to.

Again, Prince made his own choices. I respect his right to do so, but that doesn't in any way condone the rationale for them.
