Cleaning those strings thoroughly after each session of play may extend their life. The round-wound wrap accumulates oils and finger grime rather quickly.

I'm a dedicated user of Rotosound Swing Bass 66 strings. I absolutely love that mid grow, the piano like harmonics, and the long sustain. My only problem with the Rotosounds is that the go dead VERY quickly. Does anybody have a suggestion for some strings that keep that same characteristic growl, bite, and sustain but also last longer than a jam/recording session or two?

Hey Kid, you know what I'm going to suggest to you. D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewounds.

Kyle, I'm glad to see a bassist embracing sustain, spank and note definition.
That's exactly where my bass "head" is at as well.
Please allow me to introduce you to the mother of all spanky strings, The Piano String Design.
These puppies are kind of like Swing Bass 66 except on steroids.
These strings could go dead as a door nail and still have more life in them than most strings have brand new.

They're pricey and they're a bit tricky to string up but you'll figure it out and they are most definitely worth it.

RotoSound PSD99

Once you get to the website be sure to check out the links at the bottom of the page on how to string them up.

Kyle, you have some good suggestions so far.
My 2 cents would be, don't rule out Ernie Ball ( I've found them very player friendly ), DR ( very player friendly as well ), D'Addario has a few different types that all work well.
Of course Fender has bass guitar strings and you can bank on those IMHO YMMV (to quote our favorite Martian).
A good wipe down after every play as Arjay said is really the best advice though because that does extend bass guitar string life. 8)

I would say Rotosounds, which I use, but you already do use them. I use the Jazz Bass 77 flats, and was actually thinking about trying out the Swing Bass 66 for a different sound. You know, those PSD-99's that BMW-KTM suggested sounds interesting. I've read about them before, but I'm a little worried about the thin wire at the bridge and it breaking.

No need to worry.
I've been using them for a while now.
I have them on both of my Jazzes.
No issues.

Sounds good. 8) I know John Paul Jones uses those on his custom 10-string basses, from what I've read. I've heard that, too.

Thomastik-Infeld EB344 POWERBASS rounds last and last and last. No kidding. At a retail of $120 and a street price of $63 they may seem expensive but will outlast many sets of any other round I ever used. They are the only round I have used for eight years and I will not try any others. I bought what I thought was a lifetime supply several years ago but turns out my stash will actually outlast my need, so that is one less thing to worry about. I just am not going through them fast at all. Bite the bullet and try a set.

I'm a big fan of Rotosounds as well, but in a pinch, my second choice is GHS Bass Boomers. Good feel, good tone, good longevity.

Now on that note, if longevity is an issue, before going with Boomers, I'd suggest trying some Dunlap 65. Those around here who know me know I don't usually go for "gimmicks", however I have been incredibly impressed with this Dunlap stuff...getting a really insane amount of life out of both my guitar and bass strings since I've been using it. I would however reiterate what Retroverbial said as well...it really does pay to just keep your strings clean to begin with.

Just my $.02

Speaking of Dunlop, they make strings, too, but I've never tried them.

Well, I like everything the company makes, so they might be worth checking out. I know they now make flatwounds, as well as nickel and stainless steel rounds. Lemmy had a signature set with them, which they still have.

At GC yesterday I used their gift card for EB power slinky's, 55-110 for my American flag bass. Round wound, deep growl. And D'Addario super light, 9-42 for my Vex NV. Nickel wound, bright full.
