I just LOVE that bit about his strings turning purple from the intense heat generated by his aggressive playing style.
I guess that's why he can break 3 strings in a song even though he's playing "bridge cables".
They work-harden so quickly ... one song and ka-blouie.
I also quite fond of how he can ignite into flames every Jensen speaker model ever made.

(PS - I can do that too. It's called lighter fluid)

+1000!

He had what......one minor, regional hit record in his entire career?

That *might* rate a footnote in the history of surf music as a whole but he and his bloviating ego have as much significance to me as the size, shape, color, and consistency of my turds.

I think there was more than one ... regionally ... but yah, basically only one on a widely known scale.
Forget the (slightly odd) name but it's the one used by Tarantino in Pulp Fiction.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I havta agree about Dale's humbleness. Humble he's not. But, man that guy does have talent, and it doesn't stop at the guitar.

For those who aren't familiar with his talent, check his bio and/or Wikipedia post. He is not, as some would guess, a one trick pony.

I really love that BS meter, Matt.
FSB

Now I know who to blame for my broken crap surrounds on my 70s JBLs :x

Now that's an ego.

If you don't know how good Dick Dale is, just wait...he'll tell you soon enough!

I love his playing, I think the stories about him and Leo experimenting with amps, etc., are really interesting...but man, he's a bit arrogant.

Not just arrogant, anyone who only refers to themselves in the third person is a little squirrelly!

Dick Dale, no denying his talent. Saw a vid of him jamming some really fast Turkish traditional piece with his son. So precise, I mean, staggeringly precise timing. On what is complicated music.
He may talk $@!& and know not much about gear. But the results can't be denied. His playing sounds great. Personally, I don't care what comes out of his mouth sounds like when what comes out of his amp sounds so good.
