A woman is suing Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork (as the Monkeys) and others for discrimination:

Something any band should consider is a partnership agreement. Who does what, brings what, owes what could become an issue if you become somewhat successful then break up. As above, it could also be an issue if you're big enough to have employees ... or people who could be construed as employed by you.

Just another gold-digger IMO.

Good article, Philip.

I agree that a mutual written agreement should be considered in today's me generation with cherry picking lawyers (no offence to the good ones), and such.

I'm betting this will go nowhere fast; however, stranger justice has prevailed.

I have worked with and amongst disabled, and I have disabled members in the family so, while I sympathize with her condition, I wonder what this woman would have done had the situation been addressed correctly at an earlier date.

Personally, I think it should be accepted that a band is about both performance and musicianship. Many disabled musicians have not only thrived, but they have excelled, and performance played an equal part in this development. Think Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Rick 'Thunder God' Allen of Def Leopard to name a few. Whether disabled or not there are exceptions with talent. A band is the whole package IMHO. Obviously, there can be other considerations; but, that lays the foundation for a give and take scenario with sensibility playing a part in decisions. Anyone can be considered to join or leave a band depending on the needs required. Sometimes it relates to an individual, sometimes to the whole. I do agree though, that agreements should be established. These days lawyers agree with this too.
YMMV
