I have a 77 natural Strat that I bought with replaced pickups. After about 5 minutes of playing I experience static when I touch the pickguard and/or the pickup screws. I was told by a guitar tech to try copper foil under the pickguard. Does anyone else have any other solutions?

Well when I find my Strat going all staticy I take a dryer sheet like bounce or whatever and wipe down my pick guard and it goes away for awhile. Soon the heat in my house will be off and the nice weather and then the static is gone during those months, from my experience

An aluminum pickguard shield (Fender P/N 0019699000) may help.

Wipe it down with a Bounce or similiar fabric sheet.

For some reason, that sounds like a title to a song. :P

A Gibson...

To the OP, grounds check on the guitar would be my recommendation. Proper fixes: that copper foil, or the #0019699000 shield or similar solutions.

rfiori9, the guys that have posted are correct , ... a grounded bridge is a must, a shielded pickguard is a good idea and it sounds weird but , yeah the anti-cling sheets that are for your dryer are usually the best solution ...

try it ... you'll laugh when it works ...
