Keith Emerson, the outsized co-founding keyboardist in Emerson Lake and Palmer has died. Long-time bandmate Carl Palmer said he passed last night (March 10) in Santa Monica, Calif. ELP later confirmed the news. No cause of death has been mentioned; Emerson was 71.

I have seen and worked with the man, he was a very nice man and a great musician, even though he tried to power up my phantom powered mic with a make shift 9volt Battery direct, and of course destroyed it as it only wanted 48 mv. I was OK with it, I just had to laugh as he could not wait for me to get the proper power supply from my house, I guess maybe he was a little impatient

My favorite ELP song was "Lucky Man". Dying at 71, I guess Keith wasn't. RIP Mr. Emerson. :(

What a great memory, mud.

I wore out the ELP album & tape with "Lucky Man". I can hear that synth/keyboard in my head. Those guys seemed so old to me at the time and now I'm realizing there's only a 7 year different in age between him and me.

According to BBC, it was self-inflicted.
It's sad to see so many great ones go lately, even those who made their own choice to not prolong the misery.

At least Tony Banks, Rick Wakeman and Brian Eno are still with us among the prog keyboard heroes.

In June of '77, I was on 30 days leave from the USN and returned to Minneapolis.

My girl at the time was the Sales Manager for the Saint Paul Hotel, and since we planned on having quite a bit of Quality Time while I was home, she arranged for a small suite at the hotel for the pair of us as Nancy was still living at home with her parents.

Her parents lived on a lake in a near suburb called Lake Elmo. They had a private beach, ski boat, the works. Her parents were going out-of-town for the weekend and Nancy had organized a beach party/BBQ for me and all my old friends.

I arrived on June 9th. That night, Emerson, Lake & Palmer checked-in two days ahead of their 76-piece orchestra after performing in Des Moines (the orchestra came by bus). That night, I was at the bar and the three came in and sat down next to me.

Seeing my uniform, Keith started up a conversation with me and once he found that it was my home asked "What's there to do here, we've got a couple days off..??".

I mentioned some clubs and bars, but he wasn't interested. I told him that we were having a BBQ on Sat. and they could come if they wanted. Keith was thrilled, said they had been on-the-road with the 'Works' tour for 6 weeks and hadn't had a day off, or a decent meal, in all that time and if it was alright, they'd love to come.

So, they made arrangements for a car and insisted on bringing me there after their sound check. A Limo in Mpls. in '77 was still pretty heady stuff !

When we got to Nancy's, all my buddies were there. The Limo pulled up and everyone just stared as I got out followed by ELP !! After a round of introductions, we all settled down to some serious eating, drinking, swimming, water-skiing, mood enhancement and partying.

It was an amazing day topped by a dozen backstage passes for their concert that night for everyone. ELP left at 4pm to get ready for the show. We met them in the green room later that night and enjoyed a great show.

So, R.I.P. Keith !!

Thanks for the Music and a wonderful day in the Sun !!

cheers!

Pretty sad to be wishing death on anyone . Even though most politicians are deserving , they're still human .

We were talking last night about all of the great musicians that ended
up taking their own lives...very sad.

The whole PC BS really doesn't interest me, and as for wishing anyone's death looks like you miss read something, I made a plea to Death to look the other way...to the ones corrupt that didn't bring anything to human race but destruction and poverty as opposed to artists.
As for wishing anyone's death that's not the subject of my post nor will ever be and being the fact that death is a fact there's no need to wish anyone's departure from the living since it will happen to all.
Now if a little dark humor offended you, we'll...what can you do...

+1

RIP to Keith Emerson. He was absolutely amazing, and made your jaw drop when you watched him on multiple keyboards. There was nobody like him! He will be greatly missed!
