Today, I decided on impulse to satin finish necks on my guitars, spoiled by my new American Special Stratocaster, so I did a little research and got me some 0000 grade steel wool and proceed on my Takamine EG530C and Crafter TD7. Love the results. Love the feel and it looks factory made. Pics coming.

After a steel wool tretman. Also followed the wood grain with tape

The feel and playability is massively improved

If you're happy it's all good.
How about this neck modification Image

No I haven't, however I realy like it, much nicer feel and pictures don't do it justice. In person looks great.but if I ever decide to sell I can easily buff it to high gloss with some 3M polish, two grades the most to high gloss.
Thanks

I really like the look of this neck, but I have to wonder what it would look like after it has been play a lot.

I can see me spending hours with a toothpick digging dirt and gunk out of all the little holes!

Oh, the usual: sagging skin, wrinkles, an occasional liver spot.

Clearasil is less intrusive

I used a medium-rough Scotchbrite pad (some folks call them meanie-greenie pads) and lightly knocked the shinyness off the back of several of my guitars' necks. Same effect as the original post.

Those Deans with the textured neck just don't seem "right" to me, at least not at first blush. I would like to see it after 20 or 30 hot outdoor gigs, when the hands get good and grimy...I don't see it staying clean (even if you wipe it down afterwards) or aging well over the years.
