I cover my amp right away after using it. I use a towel that's just big enough to cover the knobs and switches. The only purpose of the cover is to keep dust from building up on the knobs and switches. The back and sides remain open.

I have a Hot Rod Deluxe that throws off a lot of heat when I'm playing. I always let it cool off. But it's usually cool enough to put a cover on it, after I finish break down all my other gear.

I've already chimed in on this thread a few times...BUT I am a smoker, so I just cover my amps to decrease the amount of smoke that may get into the amp. No fancy expensive covers for me, just a 30-gallon trash bag to cover the front and back of the head after it cools down....

My tube amp I let cool then cover just to keep dust and mini-fingers off of it.

The solid states get chucked under the basement stairs and are left to fend for themselves when not being used.

I only cover while transporting though I suppose I'd have to dust them less often if I covered at home. I'd never cover hot though since heat is one of the biggest killers of electronics -- you want to get all the heat out as soon as you can rather than trapping it.
