Hi guys. Just scored this lil' beauty last night for only 40 bucks from a friend who needed the cash. It's a Squier SE Strat which really isn't as bad as some of the tone snobs make them out to be. I'm going to Guitar center today to get some new knobs and Strings for it and then I'll be giving her a set up. It came with a heavy duty gig bag as well, so for what I paid, I think I got a great deal here. But apparently my dog who is grooming herself, could care less. LOL.

I think these came with the "strat packs" that you get with an amp/bag/cable/tuner/stand

I bought one for my grandkid a few years ago.

I'll tell ya what, it's a very playable guitar, with decent hardware. stays in tune pretty good, and can be setup as any other fender strat style axe could be setup.

is it the same as a Amer Standard? of course not.. but, the pack all total was under 300, and it gives beginners a chance to use something they can actually PLAY...

which is more than I can say for my first guitar, some time around 1966..

Cool deal. 8) I have a Squier Tele Custom that's a really nice guitar that I didn't have to do anything with other than I changed the strings on it, because I didn't care for the factory installed ones. They're pretty decent instruments, I think.

I just got done setting it up and it stays in tune quite well and doesn't sound bad at all. I'm going to however, see about installing a MIM Standard Strat bridge, which is more solid and would give it more sustain.

That was my first guitar, they play great and a nice score at just 40 bucks. Invest in some tuning keys, and a better tremolo and some pickups and you'll have a killer strat that will still won't break the bank.

ohhh yea..

I actually had one of those (wasn't it) a Dan Electro with the case/amp as well as another solid body with about 20 switches on it. you'd think one of those switches would say "tune me" Gawd, it was horrible.

Not giving up, I shucked papers (from 2 or three different paper routes) for many months, but finally I was able to buy a Telecaster (a 69 blonde) a shame I wasn't smart enough to hold on to that one.

The funny thing is I think those Danelectros and Teiscos are worth some money now.

Indeed!

I pooled my paper-route earnings with what I made as a summer lifeguard and some money I got caddying at a local golf course then managed a used two-pickup Melody Maker that the previous owner had upgraded with a pair of Gibson PAF's. He'd cracked the neck tenon during the install but my Dad was able to dowel and re-glue it so it stayed solid. It sounded pretty sweet though my '65 non-verb Fender Deluxe.

I found out that the MIM Fender Strat bridges won't fit on these models. I ended up installing a set of pickups from a early 90's MIM Standard Strat and was able to get a new set of white strat knobs as well . I'm going to leave the bridge as it is . It stays in tune quite well and with the new pups in it , it's a beast and is fun to play !

$40? What? No free strings or polishing cloth?

Just kidding with ya, Jeff. Enjoy that new axe. :D

The MIM Standard Strat pups are a huge difference with the sound of this guitar. Yesterday I installed a set of tuners which are from a SX Strat and they are a lot better than the stock ones, and today , I have a new set of trem springs coming in and after I install those, my mods will be done.
