Strange you ask , I just got it off about 3 pm today. It took a combination of an exacto blade and extra fine needle nose plyers. (plus a lot of patience). Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions.

Good to hear ;). I should have mentioned that patience was the main factor...

I like the plastic strap locks, like these from Jim Dunlop:

or these

Inexpensive and easy to install over factory buttons.
They're not as quick to get off (as the Schallers) for swapping straps, but I generally just leave the straps on all my guitars anyway.

I was dealing with this problem so I went out and bought very narrow-nosed pliers per the suggestion in this thread and it worked brilliantly! I might even be able to re-assemble and re-use the orphaned strap-lock. Nice!

I have noticed on "Reviews" at various on-line music stores, that those who give the Schaller, or (now also) Fender strap locks a one or two star rating; complain that the strap locks "failed" and came apart and they dropped their guitar. They have no clue that it was actually 99.9% (based on THEIR description of the incident) their own fault.

EVERYTHING mechanical requires 'Preventative Maintenance'. A lot of you on here already mentioned that you check the tightness of the nut on the strap, and the screw inside the button on the guitar, periodically, frequently, systematically, every time, and/or all of the above, etc.... THUMBS UP! That is exactly what needs to be done.
Parts loosen during movement, vibration, and any use of the equipment---that's a fact on anything mechanical. So a regular check or PM (Preventative Maintenance) of said equipment is mandatory in preventing failure.

Heck; I even regularly check screws everywhere on all my guitars and amps to prevent any unwanted rattle. It's not hard, and doesn't take long....and saves a lot of the aggravating "what the hell is that noise now" moments.

You are so right White Dog. Preventative maintenance counts. Even a Rolls Royce has nuts and bolts tightened accordingly. :P
It’s the counterfeit or crap metal that throws a screw into the works. Nothing is able to side step that though.

How bad is it? Well . . .

And that was some time ago.

Note: Strap locks are difficult AFAIK to find for Taylor acoustics, due to the battery box/ input jack restriction; but, there are some questionable solutions.
