Yesterday I got creative with both Finale (hand written drum track) and Audacity (bass guitar, rhythm guitar) and made a rough mix of the old Elvis tune "That's All Right Mama". The rhythm guitar part was done with my Strat on the bridge/middle pickup setting, clean channel. The Bass was my old POS Samick 4 string bass.

Feel free to play along with this if you like... Go ahead and sing Elvis's vocal part and play Scotty Moore's lead guitar part too. Key = A. (A.... D7....E7... repeat...)

Well, that's all right, Mama
That's all right for you
That's all right Mama, just anyway you do
Well, that's all right, that's alright,
That's all right now Mama, anyway you do

Well, Mama she done told me
Papa done told me too
Son, that gal your foolin' with,
She ain't no good for you
But that's all right, that's all right
That's all right now Mama, anyway you do

(SCOTTY MOORE'S LEAD GUITAR SOLO)

Well, I"m leaving town, baby
I'm leaving town for sure
Then you won't be bothered with me
Hanging 'round your door
But that's all right, that's all right
That's all right now Mama, anyway you do

Dee, dee, dee, dee
Dee, dee, dee,
Dee, dee, dee, dee
Dee, dee, dee,
Well, that's all right, that's all right,
That's all right now Mama, anyway you do
That's all right now Mama, anyway you do

No sweat, guys... Thanks!

I was doodling around on that hollow body Gretsch in the key of "A" and ended up goofing around on that old Elvis tune. I figured, what the heck... and decided to go back and really listen to the tune, listen to Scotty Moore's guitar, etc... and then I made the backing track, but used the Strat in the bridge/middle setting. Right at the :07 second mark, there is a real short little flam-a-diddle that I created on a ride tom in the drum beat. That's where the vocals would come in, with the "Well..." at the beginning.

Nice, Butch.

I always liked this song. Makes me think of Presley, his roots, and his raw talent before the big production kicked in.

Thanks for the track.

Sometimes I play this song live with my band - depending on the demographics of the audience.
Be careful when using MIDI backing (or any other computer-based software) to "robot" the track.
Rock 'n' roll is Heart & Soul after all.
IMHO: Your chording is textbook, however their are many other options you could use to "get that sound".
Flat picking/muting is paramount.
Cheers mate.

Thanks... Yeah, I try to use "Quantization" whenever possible with MIDI tracks along with the setting "Human Playback", so it (hopefully) won't come across as so computerized and robotic.

I think the best bet is for everyone to help me convince my wife that I need a small drum kit (i.e. real acoustic drums) in my music room!
