Beautiful 12 string. I recently bought a used 355 jumbo 12 string. Taylors are the sweetest sounding and easiest playing 12 strings I have ever played. Congrats! :D

Update, now i have 5 Taylors! 8)

I saw a beautiful 110e RW at GC the other day, i like it even more than the 114ce. The combination of the dreadnought body and layered rw back and sides on the 110 make for a noticeably better sound than the 114 with its ga size, cutaway, and layered sapele back and sides. The finish, fit and feel of the 110 is typical Taylor, awesome! Sitka spruce top, ebony fretboard, headstock overlay and bridge, layered rw back and sides. I took these pics, not great but gives you an idea of the look. I like it! :D

I added the truss rod cover to replace the stock black plastic one.

^ That was 4, and here is 5:

A T3/B, semi-hollow, Honey Burst FMT, Sapele body and neck. You can read the specs on the net, and check some youtube sound demos. This is an amazing guitar that can cover most any sound, from twangy country, to smooth jazz, to blues, to hard rock, it really can do it all, short of maybe heavy metal. The push/pull pots give great versatility, very usuable controls that allow you to dial up a great variety of sounds. And the stock roller bridge makes the Bigsby very usable, stays in tune quite nicely.

At first, I plugged into a MB head and 4x12 that I had setup for les paul hum-buckers, and thought the sounds were pretty good, but not spectacular, although the distortion sounded great. It took a minute for me to get things dialed in on the amp, but once I figured out the controls on the guitar, I was very impressed. With the MB set on Top Boost for channel 1, and Tweed for channel 2, the guitar really shines, excelling on the cranked Tweed setting. Wonderful sounds. :D

Then, I plugged into a DR and I was wowed! Really tone heaven for sure! I got some great, controllable feedback, like most any semi-hollow body, terrific sustain, and lush harmonics and overtones. If you have a chance, check out one of these T3s. I can't say enough good things about this guitar...... and oh, it is gorgeous too, better in person as the pictures don't do it justice. It has this retro look to it, and is very different from any other guitar that I've tried. Love it! 8)

Congrats, Shimmilou. Some real beauties there. I like what you did with the truss cover and the T3/B is a stunner.

I had no idea there was as much love for the Taylor acoustics.

This was posted elsewhere as some of you know. But, for continuity the 2017 Taylor 114ce (which I picked up this weekend) is now walnut rather than rosewood. Both have their charm IMHO.

And you are right, BMW-KTM. My story is similar to yours. I too was not looking for a Taylor . . . but. look at me - now I has one. 4 more to go, Shimmilou. And I think I have humidity worries?
Meanwhile, back to the Strat.

thx. :)

Yes, new for 2017, some Taylor 100 series have either layered Walnut or layered Rosewood back and sides. That is really what attracted me to the new 110 RW, which looks better than the Sapele versions. Not sure if the layered RW contibutes to much of a difference in sound compared to the layered Sapele or not, but the RW sure is nice to look at. I do notice quite a difference in tone and overall sound between the 110 and 114, but there are more differences than just the type of wood used, so hard to say for sure, but i think that part of the difference in sound could be the wood.

Oh wow! I just looked at yours, beautiful! I really like the back on yours, very interesting, eye catching pattern. Congrats!

Thanks, shimmilou. Back at ya. The rosewood definitely outshines the sapele IMHO. YMMV. I believe there may be some difference in sound reproduction even with the layered construction with regards to density. Can't say scientifically, but something good is in the wind. Enjoy those baby's.

Sometimes, I wish the back of the guitars could be seen from the front.

I'm with shimmi, that back is gorgeous!
I don't know if I ever mentioned it on these pages but I'm back down to two Taylors.
The Baritone turned out to be purposeless.
I never could find a use for it.
Still looking for that special 12.
Not a fan of the expression system so the keeps me off a number of them.

I hope you are fortunate in your search for a 12. 8)

Thanks, Matt. Having given up a 12 string, I know it can be hard to find that 12 that has one's own vibe and mojo. It's out there and headin' your way.
FSB

I hear ya about the expression system, Matt. I questioned it at first. A tuner would have been nice, a midrange, and a phase switch for example; but, a lot of the other systems that had the desired electronic sound had flimsy thumb controls or questionable pup placement. Many had an increase in the chances of falling apart or off in some cases. Some installations were prone to getting in the way. A few systems even interfered with internal truss rod adjustment. In the end I chose the unplugged sound with the expression 2 system with adjustable pup behind rather than under the saddle as a bonus.

The expression system's omissions can be, for the most part, achieved another way. In some situations, such as with pedals or a mixer (and more), the added/missing features may even be redundant. Simplicity (less is more) can often be good for the initial recording process too IMHO. YMMV Still, I wouldn't turn down extra features if they didn't compromise the sound or build. That usually comes at a cost. After all, I've seen great electronics in a cheap guitar and cheap electronics in a great guitar. The Taylor appears to be a good compromise. Fender has some contenders that need a tweak. Many would say that they're not there yet, but I believe Fender is headed in the right direction, especially with the Paramounts.
Cheers!

My 814 CE Limited came with a Fishman Blender.
Now that I've become accustomed to great sound the TES leaves me wanting better tone.
The Baritone had the TES and I think with the lower register it sounded a tad better than normal.
If I do find "my" 12, it will likely be a non cutaway non electric and I'll buy a Fishman for it and install after the fact.
I'm fortunate that my little town has a local luthier and he does pretty nice work.
I think I would trust him to cut a hole in a guitar.

Actually, I considered going that route by choosing my poison as an after market. I did find that to be a good way providing it isn't an unattainable desirable proprietary or special to the manufacturer system. There is usually an added cost, and little bit of the unknown audible result with a new install, however. I think there's a separation here comparing a hot rodded electric from paper and a hot rodded acoustic similarity.

I played several acoustics that made me wonder how the unplugged response would change with a system slipped into the body where one didn't exist. Transferring system characteristics to a different model has the possibility of comparing apples to oranges unless there is a similar reference. Having said that, many consider Fishman the Rolls Royce of choice. Having had the pleasure (one time) of driving a '57 Silver Cloud I would consider the Fishman. That may be the replacement should the expression 2s take a hike. So there's always that option, but risk is more at acceptable to me an earlier age, and so, at my age longevity plays a part. Did I really say that?
It's a good, better, best challenge. I can appreciate that all is good for now. And I know, Matt, that your sweet 814 CE Limited must be way better, and who knows what's best? Maybe, it is already.
