I just read this over at Facebook. RIP, Maurice White. :( I'm really starting to think that if you are famous musician that got started in the 60's, this isn't going to be a good year for you, nor was last year. :(

I just woke up to this news. This is not a good year for " Classic Rock " musicians , is it ?

Apparently 2016 is the "expiration" date for a lot of musicians.. we should all start looking to see if we have any numbers stamped somewhere.

He was also the drummer on all those unbearably groovy Ramsey Lewis Trio albums. They were all keepers. Love EWF, but I think I love those even more.

2016 needs to knock it off :(

+1000!

If "the reaper" were less "grim" this year, it wouldn't break my heart.

The hemorrhage must stop!

Seems to me that 2016 has knocked off quite a few already.

Statistically, it's to be expected that for all the heroes that started in the 60s/70s, there will be a climbing rate of deaths around now. But that doesn't make it much easier to relate to as a human being.

Maurice. Man oh man what a talent. EW&F has always been one of my faves and Maurice was a big part of the reason behind it. I'm not sure I would have discovered the kalimba had it not been for his contribution. He's our loss, but Rock and Roll Heaven's gain. Thanks, for it all, Maurice.

Geez...maybe we need a "Musicians Passed" thread...Dan Hicks now too!

"With a very heavy heart, I share this message about my dear step-dad from my amazing mom ....Dan will live in our hearts forever...

"My darling darling husband left this earth early this morning.
He was true blue, one of a kind, and did it all his own way always.
To all who loved him, know that he will live forever in the words, songs, and art that he spent his life creating. He worked so hard on each and every detail -- they are all pure Dan.

So, Duke, Benny, Django and Stephane -- he's on his way -- you'll be laughing soon!"

Much love,
CT Hicks

Sorry to hear about Dan, Mike.

For those of you aspiring to be songwriters, if you haven't heard of or listened to Dan Hicks, you might want to do yourself a favour and check this pro out. Not for everyone's taste, but certainly plenty of great stuff to digest.

Condolences to friends and family.
