Some styles of guitars, and basses can be more prone to not taking set on staying in tune.

Yeah, I imagine certain designs would factor in that.

I don't think it's as bad as it used to be for some of the more problematic ones of the past.

Well, things can improve over time with trial and error, or at least you'd hope they would.

Unfortunately, that's not always the case.

I can honestly say, I never had an issue with tuners not taking, and holding a set.

Even the no name bass a friend lent me when I stated out, stayed in tune. I guess I've been lucky all along. That thing was heavy, and the neck really did feel like a baseball bat. Buy it held me over until I had the EKO. Those were good times back then. Young, and stupid.

I think bass tuners seem to hold the tune a lot more than guitar ones do, or maybe it's because we don't notice as much when we go out like you can with a guitar does.

I was lucky that my first bass was a Peavey, which was pretty decent thing to start learning on, I think. I certainly could have gotten worse, and would have, if they had that offered that was cheaper. I was looking for the cheapest bass I could find, because I didn't even know I was going to stick with playing it. Who knew? :P

You may be right about bass tuners holding better.

Maybe it has to do with the size of the tuners?

I played it today, and it's one great playing bass. It holds it's tune fine also.

Did you ever have to tweak the action much on it, or was it good as is when you got it?

I must be one of the few bass players that does well with the Fender setup. No, I never had to do anything outside of the factory setup. The same on the Am. Pro. Jazz, and the Mustang PJ.
