I did do a minor change to my half stack today. I replaced the Bassman 115 Neo cab, to an Ampeg SVT-212AV cab. Image

There presently is a Ghost online for sale at $55 Amn. It looks a little suspect, but hard to say for sure, other than it has some cosmetic wear around where the top of the gear shaft/casing is (not sure of the correct term for that). Price is okay, but pedals are a risky buy without hands on as slippage, binding, shifting right to left, breakage from metal fatigue, belts/chains, etc. can make a pedal difficult or impossible to repair. The Ghost just isn’t the kind I would personally attempt to fix, and farming repairs out may not be worth the effort, although a good one would be nice. Dating/usage is iffy. Longevity down the road for a good one would be another matter too providing parts were even available. But, if a good one was available for a decent price it could be worth a gamble even for a short term. I would consider it (hands on inspection only).

Say, Glenn, how did you know of the Ghost?

You’re right that most don’t know of the pedal or even the name. I never understood the mystery of the poor coverage it got considering the good and bad reputation. Maybe it was mass promotion for the alternatives. Maybe it was a known mistake in the build as opposed to basic concept where they were content to just cover their losses? It is my belief Speed King had better word of mouth out there.

I forgot to mention I like Pearl as well. Just got a new music catalogue with goodies of all sorts. A while ago somebody showed me some cheap Chinese cymbals. Often these less robust cymbals don’t last long, but I have to say the sound was very good. The flip side? I just checked some new hi-hat hardware and the cost could be close to that of an entry level kit. Electric drums? They don’t look as flashy as Gretsch Renown ‘57 Chevy kits. But, I wouldn’t refuse some Roland’s if anybody wants to donate, that’s only if somebody doesn’t donate the Gretsch to a worthy cause - me! I’ll add a Ghost if I find a good one. :D
Meanwhile, me and the Strat will play Ghost Riders In The Sky. :P

FSB

Jello anyone?

It does look more matching. The grill cloth is actually a bit more of a blueish tint, but the light I guess from the camera's onboard flash washed it out a bit.

I was going to mention Pearl drums. That would probably my choice on currant available sets. "Ghost Riders In The Sky", a good one.

Thanks Paul. I like it too. The Bassman putting out 500 watts, @ 4 ohms sure does sound good matching up with the 600 watt cab.

Has there been a noticeable difference in volume since you changed the cab?

I believe so. There was when I tried the two cabs at the store, before I ordered the 2X12. And I'd have to say a difference in volume at home, as well with the drop shipped cab.

That was pretty cool you were able to even do a side by side comparison between the cabs. It takes away the guessing when you order something online and you really don't know until you get it. There's only so much you can take from demo videos, although I've typically had to rely on those, since I'm not really near some shop that I can just go into and try a bunch of crap out.

Yes it was. Even better, I played the "Electric Lady" through them. Since I was going to do a for real side by side, what better way than to play my USA GL through them. The PJ Precision played well through it today as well.

That's the best way to do it, if you can use your own bass to test out the amps and/or cabs to get a good idea how it's going to sound. Although, they might have the same or similar bass at the store, which can also help, and gives you an excuse to play on other basses.

That’s great, Glenn. Sounds like a keeper.

Yes it's a keeper for real. The Ghost Pedals were pretty popular when I was on the road back then. A good friend who was a drummer used, and liked the Ghost Pedals on his Rogers set. If I was still drumming back then, I'd be using a Ghost Pedal too. The Speed King was a good pedal. I liked the force that the Ghost Pedal struck the bass drum with. When it made contact, you heard it! Hmmm, Jello,............
