Very cool ship, Paul. That must have been an experience for your father. Leasing it to Vietnam's Republic was also informing.

The US Navy always interested me. I sailed to Norfolk in '67 and was in awe of not only how many ships were there; but, how many types there were, many of which left before me in large numbers by the hour on their way to Vietnam. Plus, the Westcoast American Navy visited my hometown on a regular basis to Hawaii and Asia. I got to see a lot of famous craft.

Not such a large variety in Canada as it is very much an expert in anti-submarine warfare ingrained because of the early WWII U-boat hunting off of the Maritimes and with convoys.

My dad's ship rammed a U-boat in the fog and, fortunately for me, he made it back. I have some original photos (including POWs) that will go to a museum. The story was in Life Magazine.

I sailed many ships large and small, old and new, and steered a cruiser with my dad when I was 10. My brother was christened with water in it's bell and his name is engraved on it in a museum.

But, since this thread is about the GL Jazz, I'll leave you to some photos of that U-boat battle.

Later, I found myself in a school named after Capt. Stubbs, and I was told they had a dog on the ship, Glen.

Okay, now I'll tie this post into this thread.

There are boat fenders, and bass boats.

My great grand father, my father's mother's dad was a U-Boat captain in WW l. My grandmother showed me a photo she had of him in his uniform. A typical German Navy Captain, mustache with a goatee. He was awarded a Grand Cross 1914. The Grand Cross later became The Knight's Cross in WWll. My grandmother told me, "He went out to sea one day, and never returned".

Thanks, for sharing your story, Glen. That would have been the Imperial Navy, and it was a different time of chivalry. Those submariners were pretty much pioneers, as are many that followed. Submariners are respected with a worldwide kinship even today. much like all mariners.

I toured the U-505 in Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, and I spent the day on the HMCS Grilse (formerly the USS Burrfish) next to my ship. They tried to get me to give up my frigate. Nope! I prefer to steer the boat across the water and not under it. Not for me. I like to wake up and stretch out to sunshine . :D
However, my buddy did get more trips to Hawaii for sub training exercises, and he stretched out on the beach with a steady girlfriend while I stretched out on the deck. It was like his second home.
At least I could smoke my pipe like Popeye.

I had an uncle who was in the Navy during WWII. He was awarded the Navy Cross for throwing over board a live German round that hit the deck of the ship, but didn't detonate on impact. Probably lucky it didn't. My other uncle was in the Seabees in the Pacific during that time. That guy was quite the character. He told me some pretty messed up stories of what happened there going through those islands fighting against the Japanese. They were the first ones to go in there and have to clear areas and built bridges and things like that to move equipment in and vehicles. They are both gone, now. There aren't too many of that generation left, anymore.

Very cool and brave uncles, Paul. The Seebees were all a little crazy and amazing. Navy Cross - Wow! As Ringo would put it, it don't come easy.

My uncle was an RCAF photographer who worked with Spitfires and Hawker Hurricanes. While the aircrew was having an early Christmas dinner in a French airfield a Luftwaffe bomb came through a roof, hit the dinner, and it too did not, thankfully, go off.
I think that only made the Canucks, Brits, and Aussies, madder.

Yeah, talk about a way to liven up a dinner party. They probably thought it was a bit rude to drop ordnance during holiday festivities. :P

For me, it's nice to have a Jazz I like as much as my USA Geddy Lee Jazz.

Would you say it's you're favorite Jazz that you ever played on?

The USA GL Jazz plays super through the Bassman. I do believe I did the right move by changing out the Rumble 500 Combo, for the Bassman half stack.

I liked it playing through the other amps, but it really shows it's power, and very solid sounds through the Bassman.

I really do prefer this Jazz over the others, I've had in the past years.
