I have the Fretless on it's way, for a Wed. delivery. I played that Am. Pro. Fretless Jazz again today.

It's been a while since you had a fretless.

October of 2016, since I had the last Fretless. It was one of the $200.00 discounted Am. Std.'s. Wed. Is the delivery day, a day sooner than I expected.

Do their fretless basses come with flats installed? I've seen cheaper fretless basses come with rounds, which I've always understand was bad for the fret board on those.

Fender Flats are standard on the Am. Pro. Fretless, as were on the Am. Std. Fretless also.

That's good. I do believe Fender still makes a set of flats, but I haven't used those in many moons. I've once picked up a set of light gauge Fender flats at the Wagon Wheel Flea Market, in Florida, for $19 when I was in my early 20's. It seems like an odd place to get bass strings (that's probably why I still remember doing so,) but they were there and I had the cash, so there you go. I remember liking them quite a bit, too.

The Fender Flats look, and feel pretty good.

I can't remember if I've used them since then, and I wonder if they are actually made in the same place as they were back then? I know they've changed the packaging a few times, but a lot of brands will do that, besides strings.

Too many times a product is not available in the store, because of package design changes. Then it shows up again, and it may not be bought because the consumer has found another product to use in place of it.

They like to change things like that I guess so you'd think it's something new. The only problem I ever have with something changing is when it's not the same quality as previously had, i.e. cutting corners to make an extra buck, etc.

You nailed that one Paul! Maybe, Am. Std. repackaged, Am. Pro. Same basic package, $100.00 buckaroos higher. Now $50.00 more for the Rosewood Board on it.

Not much difference then, huh?

Not really. Color of the PG, pups, and a slight mod. to the tuning keys. That's about it I think. And of course the higher price tag.

Doesn't seem like it's worth it much, then, does it?

No, it really doesn't. My problem with a Fretless, I've become accustom the rounded edges of the board when I play a Fretless. The Standard Fretless doesn't have the rounded edges. My Fretted Standard board is close, but not the same.
