You ever seen one of those mirrored pick guards? I think those might be cool, especially with some lighting.

I've seen them, on some basses, and they don't look too bad. I'm just not crazy about them enough to install one on one of my basses. A bit to bright, and flashy for my subdued taste in PG's. Would you go for a mirrored PG on one or more of your basses?

I sold the Am. Std. today, and kept the USA GL Jazz, and the Spl. Edition White Opal.

I never thought I'd like a Jazz with as large of a neck on it as this USA GL has on it. But it's great with the sanded flat section of it.

You mean it has a thicker neck on it?

Yes, has a Bone Nut, and it has a Custom Thick "C" neck on it. The neck is Hand Rubbed Oil on Back. The custom shop sands the crown of the back of the neck, so it's more flat at the crown, similar to the flatness of a 4003. A great touch that finishes off the USA GL. Custom Voiced American Vintage '70s Geddy Lee pups. I guess it's a semi custom shop bass.

He use to play a Ric, so that wouldn't surprise me if that might be an influence on that neck.

I missed you're reply about the mirrored pick guard and I'd give one a try. That or maybe those disc mirror things like Syd Barrett had on his guitar. Jimmy Page did that with his Tele when he was in the Yardbirds, too.

If the influence of a Ric was used on the neck of the USA GL, a great move.

At this time, I believe I'm hanging it up on the USA GEddy Lee Jazz. The 4003W, and the Mustang PJ are working.

That's kind of funny, since we were talking about the neck on the Geddy Lee feeling like a Ric neck. Is that what made you decide to look at Rics again, or you just happen to wander in and see one in a shop?

I guess a combination of all of that Paul. I've been on, and off looking for another 4003W that is better than the previous one I had. It's a bit ironic I guess that we were talking about the similarity of the two necks too. There was a 4003 JetGlo there, but the grain in the Walnut grabbed me big time. And I may have mentioned it before, this Walnut is put together like a 4003W should be. ImageImage

That's certainly a nice looking example. 8)

Thanks Paul. The frets are finished, and the strings line up with the pup poles. All in all, the neck feels beautiful, and it plays great. It's nice to not have a glossy finished back of the neck. No drag on it at all. Image

I'm with you, Glenn. Satin necks are sweet. IMHO.

That Ric with a satin neck is sweet. :D

I've come to that comfort zone with the Satin Necks too. The USA Geddy Lee got me feeling the difference when going from the non-sanded area of the neck, to the sanded area of the neck.

I like the Maple Boards on both the USA GL Jazz, and the Ric 4003W. Both have pearloid inlays. Block inlays on the USA GL, and Triangular inlays on the 4003W.
