The show started on a somber note w/ David Freiberg (also from Quicksilver Messenger Service (Quicksilver)) paying tribute to Paul, his music, care for causes, etc. He spoke of times in the Haight-Ashbury of the mid-60s and those Psychedelic times.

The first song was 3/5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds from the Airplane's 1st album, then Stranger from Starship.

They went back & forth playing songs from both bands incl. Miracles, White Rabbit, Find Your Way Back, Winds of Change, ending with Somebody to Love. They also played Fresh Air by Quicksilver Messenger Service (co-written w/ Kantner). All-in-all, they got around to most of their songbook.

They encored with Volunteers (also a Kantner song).

It was a good show despite losing Paul, I think he'd have approved.

cheers!

A little off topic, but how was the Blue Oyster Cult portion of the show??
(I am dying to know actually. I saw them a bunch of times in their hey day when they just killed (it is funny that they were a huge sell-out arena act circa-1980, and a LOT of people never heard of them). I saw them once "after their fall from stardom" in a small not-even-close-to-sold-out little club, and they were not the same at all (in a 'not good' way) ... That was about 20 years ago in the late 90s. I have not seen them since, but I still consider myself a huge fan, and Buck Dharma the most under-rated rock guitarist ever.)

Well, this is all subjective, but I didn't thinik they had the 'punch' of the Starship show, though they seemed to catch a 2nd wind after the break. It was a good show/performance.

They started out w/ The Red & the Black, then worked their way through the song book w/ Burnin' for You, Shooting Shark, ME 262, Buck's Boogie (Buck was great !), Godzilla ending the set w/ (Don't Fear) The Reaper.

They did a double-encore w/ Hot Rails to Hell and Cities on Flame With Rock and Roll.

Last time I saw BÖC was in 1997 in Clinton, IA and this show was definitely better.

cheers!

Blue Öyster Cult had the fortune and misfortune of having two truly great players: Buck Dharma Roeser on lead and Joe Bouchard on bass (although he plays guitar too). When Joe Bouchard left, it just wasn't the same. The two played off each other so well, and that, unfortunately, was gone, and the band turned more Styx-esque in their last few albums.

Godzilla is probably the best stage show I've seen apart from Pink Floyd, back in the days when BÖC had the numbers to do extravagant stage shows. It's a song that really lends itself to it.

BÖC and Jefferson Starship seems like a great combination, as they don't really compete.

A sad loss for music! The last time my wife and I saw him play was over 3 years at a Science Fiction festival called Dragon Con in Atlanta Georgia. Paul was amazing performing the classics we always knew him to play. RIP. He will be missed.
