Impulse pawn shop purchase for 100 bucks. Not the greatest deal ever but fair to say the least.

Epiphone LP Special

Gave her some love and then I realized this guitar was hardly played. Hardly any wear on the frets and hardly any pick strikes on the finish. I might sell it, or maybe keep it and put some decent pickups and tuning machines.

Not the greatest guitar but it is my first Les Paul shaped object!

Been noodling with it and so far I like how it plays, but those pickups are crap, and those tuning machines need to go too. I'm not sure if to put money in it, or sell it.

mighty mite keeps it low but measure twice cut once. I have heard those guitars have boogie potential. Let us know 8)

I've played a few of those back in the day and IMO, they are very underrated guitars. Give it a new set of tuners and you'll be all set.

Just joined that shaped object club myself 1neeto, must have been alot of air in the packaging of mine, cause out of it and strapped on is a fair chunk of wood that my shoulder can testify to, all good though as pulling down on shoulder is part of physio exercise for first rib realignment, trying to convince my wife another matter though. Enjoy your new axe

Haha yeah this one is basswood body but weights like mahogany!

I was doing some fun stuff yesterday, I was playing it and my strat back to back to hear the differences and wow they do sound very different. The strat has much better pickups, but right off the bat, I noticed the LP to have more sustain, which I found odd because of the bolt-on neck. The pickups do have that LP tone, but the balance is terrible (some strings are louder than others). Playability, I do feel more at home with the strat, but hey that one has been my main guitar for a few years now.

So I think I'm keeping it, just gotta tweak the action a bit (too high for me), gonna change those pots and tuners (did I mention how terrible those are?) and I have a nice hand wound humbucker laying around I might install on the bridge.

Read an article a few weeks back about the apparent sustain differences between LP's, Strat's and Tele's.
Surprisingly the Strat came out on top. The author theorised that because of the initial attack of the note from a strat. Then the sudden (but very lingering) drop off. That they sound less sustaining than Les Pauls. Which has less attack and a smoother drop off. Over a shorter time, during his test.

I'll try and find it

you might be able to raise or lower the poles in the pickup individually to balance it out.

Yeah I did lower the high e side but the b string is still a bit louder.

Yeah what I heard was a smoother and longer drop off but didn't consider the attack. My strat is definitely snappier.

The pawn shop owner showed me this yesterday. He wants $450 for it. Yeah right!

Any Ibanez gurus here? Alan Holdsworth signature guitar from the mid 80's. Looks in rough shape though. I offered $150 and he said he rather keep it.

I've never seen that Ibanez before, but I'm not exactly some extensive expert on the brand. I do remember a lot from the 80's, though. They had a boat load of Ibanez guitars in the music store I use to go to back in the day.

One just sold for over $2000 on Reverb. Granted, it was in much better shape, but still visibly used.

I still wouldn't buy it at $350, because when all comes to all, it's still a single humbucker basswood Far East strat-a-like that has aged as well as an 80s groupie. A collector or fan might like it.

Yeah he sent me that link as proof of what the guitar is worth. I told him, there's no way I will pay that much. And basswood is not a bad tone wood, EBMM's JP series are basswood and they sell for nearly 3 grand.

I might show up today with 300 bucks cash and offer 200 and go up from there until 300.
