So in the last six months I have sold two guitars, bought two new ones, bought my first tube amp and 4 pedals. Now I have my eye on a boutique tube amp from this guy in Kentucky. And I want this cool sounding MXR overdrive pedal.

I have spent hours and hours looking at reviews for amps, listening to YouTube demos and prowling around forums like this.

Wondering if I ha be GAS. If I do, please someone let me know the cure.

You can cure your GAS by shifting your attention to your playing instead of buying new gear.

Same for girlfriends.

Are you saying one can never have too many girlfriends? You live dangerously, man!

Explain to girlfriends, I meant! :D

For health reasons, I strongly suggest not having more than one wife or more than one girlfriend at a time. (And make sure they never meet.)

After several years of exploring different gear (and developing experience and personal opinion), it's possible to land on what just makes you happy.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

There's some major truth in that statement...I spent a lot of time playing good stuff that wasn't "exactly what I wanted," and when I finally acquired a level of perfection that satisfied me, I moved on to other items (outside of guitars).

Outside of a Fender Bass VI and a smaller tube amp (than my current choice), I have little to no GAS left...and neither of those are nagging enough to make me run out and get them, even though I'm looking at models that are currently in (financial) reach.

As bad as G.A.S. can be, it's a whole lot less painful than gout. I'd take five years of untreated G.A.S. over the mildest bout of gout any day!

The problem is that it isn't an either/or. Having a bad rheumatic condition and G.A.S. is no fun. It tends to make one more picky, though. 75 lb amps become a little less attractive, unless they come with a roadie plan.

True...I sold an amp I loved dearly because it was just too stinking heavy to move around....and when I got the bright idea to acquire another one, I lifted it and carried it across the store, which reminded me of the reason I sold the first one. Casters help, but don't help when you have to lift it into the back of the car.

I'm looking at getting a smaller tube amp (either a vintage Princeton or a '68 Custom Princeton) than my current choice ('63-reissue Vibroverb), just due to lifting/carrying issues that arise when I have a flare-up...I don't have them often, but when I do, ¡ay carrumba!
