there goes the pint

I believe it isn't the mandolin tuning though.

This kind of tuning has a specific name in Portugal it's Coimbra's tuning. The normal tuning is Lisboa's a whole tone above it :)

I actually love the damn thing. It sounds great but it's a bit of a challenge to play since you only play it with you index and your thumb...

But it means so much tradition wise and student wise (Portugal has a big tradition when it comes to the students look it up)
So yeah I'm absolutely in love with it. :D

Did you ever see a 12 string lute? other than the headstock, looks very much like this.

looks pretty interesting all the same.

Fado music. You know, really depressing stuff with songs like the fisherman's wife is a widow. Hey, Fall River is just down the road. You don't get any more Portuguese than that unless you go over seas. :P

Much like country music then, just substitute "cattle" with "fish" and "horse" with "boat".

Kid Blast no I never seen one but I'll make sure i look up into it :)

Oh boy oh boy not all fado is sad and depressin' naw naw naw.

Although there are many sad songs mainly expressing the feeling of saudade (curious it doesn't have a direct translation to english but it mainly means longing/yearning) many of it's songs are also written for a city, an iconic character or tradition.
