There was a time when I did not like Glenn so much, he always seemed so arrogant. After watching The History of the Eagles, I realized that he was the driving force behind the band. I need to watch that documentary, because I, too, have very mixed feelings about Mr. Frey.

I love his songwriting, and many of the songs by the Eagles play as a soundtrack to my childhood.

However, the single personal interaction I had with him (circa 1991) was extremely unpleasant.

His arrogant, curt and rude attitude and behavior ruined the potentially amazing event--a tour of Guitar Centers, promoting the release a new album and a signature model Rickenbacker guitar (of which I've never seen another example).

Unfortunately, it jaded my (as well as several other audience members) attitude(s) toward him.

I admire his songwriting, and I love many of his performances. Maybe watching that documentary will re-establish some respect for the man himself.

I hope his family and friends find peace during their time of loss.

So far as his songwriting ability, check into it.

Many of his songs were collaborations w/ Frey taking more credit than his contribution may have warranted.

There an interesting interview w/ Joe Walsh on BBC where he alludes to this. Interestingly, the basic melody of Hotel California came from a warm-up exercise Walsh did which Frey overheard.

Also, their 1st hit, Take it Easy was all but written by Jackson Brown. Brown was stuck in the 2nd verse and Frey added the great line: "such a fine sight to see... there's a girl my lord in a flatbed Ford slowing down to take a look at me"

A great line as I said, but hardly the impetus of the song as a whole.

I'm not speaking ill of the dead, but I dislike some people becoming greater in death than they truly were in life.

And... let's not forget Linda Ronstadt's role in creating the Eagles...

cheers!

Like his personality or not, Glenn was not unlike many other gifted individuals. Sometimes the direction we take is misguided for reasons of our own doing, and at other times we are pointed in the wrong or right direction by those who have influence. It is common opinion that everyone is replaceable. Maybe so, maybe not. Another Elvis, another John Lennon, another Michael Jackson, another B.B. King, another David Bowie, another Glenn Frey? I guess this is what they mean - maybe not the same, but replacement is a factor be it good or bad.

As for The Eagles, it is and was The Eagles together that has/had that distinct sound. Glenn was an Eagle and he soared high even in turbulent times. Thanks, Glenn for sharing.

Have a Peaceful Easy Feeling.

I'm not sure if it's "death fatigue" with all the music stars dying lately, or if it's because of how Frey kicked out Randy Meisner, Bernie Leadon and Don Felder and acted so arrogant, but I cannot really muster a lot of sadness. No doubt he did a lot of good songwriting in the 70s, and a massive amount of concerts, but, I don't know, I just can't feel the same sadness as for Percy Sledge, Mike Porcaro, Rocky Frisco, Chris Squire, B.B. King, Scott Weiland, Philty Taylor, Natalie Cole, Lemmy Kilmister and David Bowie.

Too many lives to celebrate and miss.

A lot of people don't know this, but Glenn Frey was from Michigan -- that surprises people as the Eagles have such a strong California association. The other surprising thing is that Bob Seger way back in the very early '70s was his mentor, and had a lot to do with his development. My favorite Glenn Frey song was the Eagles' "James Dean" (I am assuming he wrote it -- of course, up until yesterday, I thought Don Henley wrote "Desperado", but Glenn wrote that one, too).

I just found it out on Facebook. WTF ? Is this some type of curse or something where our musicians that we grew up with, are dying ?

It's been a horrible start to the year!!!

And even further bad news. Millions mourn as rocker/activist Ted Nugent, 66, found alive.

It was the riff from `Life in The Fast Lane' that Frey overheard Walsh playing...not `Hotel California'.

Genn Frey was an extremely talented musician and songwriter. However, the negative side of his personality which was exposed in the Eagles documentary will unfortunately remain a part of his legacy. I'm not judging his character...I wonder what I would have said or done in the same situations.

I wish you a Peaceful Easy Feeling, Glenn. Thanks for the music.

I didn't know about his health issues so this is a real shocker for me.
I really love The Eagles. They were supposed to do a concert at the Kennedy Center. Now I wonder if the band will break up again or try to go on without him.

RIP It seems that band in heaven gets more talented every week.
