My girlfriend bought me one of these:

http://www.guitarcenter.com/ProLine/24- ... r-Stool.gc

quite nice, even if basic. She bought it on a 4th of July sale and it was cheaper.

But as others have said, when I really get into it, standing seems better -- through my whole body into it! :)

If a person were planning to purchase 100 stools for a business, and wanted to try out various models before purchasing them, would the trial models be stool samples?

I'll get my hat...

OUCH! You just put a smile on my face for what was otherwise going to be a grim day ... love it!

I prefer the office chairs without the side arms..... they're adjustable (height) and offer some back support... been using them for years with great succes... and... they have wheels
Makes it easy to get around in your practice space without having to put the guitar down... try one out... they're great fun :D

I tried out a PicknGlider once 10-12 yrs ago in a shop, liked it very much. A few years ago I finally bought one for myself and the angle of the back to the seat seems different and it's just not as comfortable as the display chair I tried previously. Perhaps I changed, but it's not a perfect fit now. Mostly now I sit on the edge of the couch.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Either a stool or a chair without arms is fine for me.

+1 on using a strap adjusted to the same length for stand-up playing. It keeps everything consistent and perhaps could prevent an accident.
