I remember reading dozens of threads on guitar picks on this forum and lots of people wrote about Dunlop's tiny Jazz III guitar pick.

I've always used Fender mediums when playing my Strat and recently a Fender heavy for my new (Christmas present) hollow body Gretsch G5122. But while out and about today, I decided to stop in at Guitar Center (and put up with the wall of noise from teenagers banging away on a cheap guitar with the distortion channel dimed on "10"... Stop, just stop, before I come over there and smack you!!!) Anyway, I saw a pack of Dunlop Jazz III guitar picks and picked them up and got the heck out of the place while I still had my sanity. Once I got home, I tried out a Jazz III pick vs my Fender medium & Fender heavy. It is a lot smaller obviously, but for some reason or another, I can pick perfectly clean notes, scale runs, etc... a lot faster and with more precision than with the regular size picks. Hmmmm... Interesting. I'm going to play around with this some more to see if it's for real or just a fluke.

Who else uses these? What do you think of them?

Dava, makes a pick the same size as a Jazz III, but with a rubberized grip coating. I used them for a couple of years and still do occasionally. Very nice for digging in and playing clean.

I don't normally use a pick (it's usually just flesh and fingernails for me), but certain songs seem to beg for strumming with a pick...and on those occasions, I use a Dunlop Jazz III.

I just noticed that I sound like the "most interesting man in the world."

Anyway, the Jazz III picks make forward smoother, cleaner and more exact sound. They make my plectrum-infused songs much less sloppy.

I used to use those little speed picks (other brand but same thing). They kind of stink for strumming though, I don't bother with them anymore.

Dang it! I hate to be picky (sic), but now I'm going to consider getting one of those to add to my collection. I still have a few unknown promotional picks from long gone 60s and 70s local music stores, most of which are medium.

When I had my 12 string, for the rare occasions when I didn't finger pick, I used medium to heavy picks. For the Strat I normally use medium, but for Surf and similar instrumentals I will use light (often preferring rounder rather than pointed designs which I will most often use for rhythm).

Funny thing is, when I was a kid I would buy a box of assorted fish hooks and use a worm. When I grew up those hooks and worms turned into exotic tackle. The worms worked better IMHO. My youth in the country (far from a music store) found me making picks out of all sorts of paraphenalia. Now I have calculated decisions to make.
Oh, the shame of it all.

Ah another believer. Actually I tried them just a few months ago after I bought a DiMarzio JP strap and it came with 3 JP Jazz III 1.5mm picks. Almost right away I noticed my individual string picking and runs were a whole lot more accurate. I use them whenever I'm playing some lead runs or scales. Great picks!

LOL... Thanks for the great replies and hilarious video!
So far, I have found the Dunlop Jazz III to be an incredible pick for electric work (all styles, all genres, etc...) and it gives such a beautiful tone too.

BUT... the tiny little pick is a little awkward when it comes to acoustic work, mainly strumming a 12 string acoustic. I think for my acoustics, I'll stick with the normal sized Dunlop nylon 73mm picks.
