While looking for info on NAMM 2016, I came across this link which which turned out to be a sneak peak for NAMM 2015. http://www2.fender.com/experience/fender-tone/whet-namm-appetite/

What caught my eye was the question Fender asked its readers about being CEO for a day so I thought I would ask the same question but make it a little broader in scope. If you were a Fender CEO for a day, what changes would you make?

Cheers!

Changes schmanges, I might hire you for an hour or two though. I'm sure you'd get into some kind of guitar mischief

A single day's tenure as CEO really wouldn't let me do what I feel is necessary to improve the long-term health of the corporation but I would can the entire board of directors and ban the use of RoHS-compliant solder company wide forever.

It's probably a good thing for Fender that I'm NOT their CEO and an even better thing that I have no chance of ever being in that position, but if it were only for one day, I think the company could survive my "mischief". Okay here goes.

The option for a hardtail, vintage frets, 7.25 radius and pups would be available for the American Standard Stratocaster. In order to maintain that "iconic" Strat look all pickup configurations will be SSS. Humbuckers would still be "tolerated" but they would be stacked. LOL

Well, I think that's enough to run the company into bankrupcy ...

Cheers!

Close the direct sales and stop alienating small retailers.
It didn't work well for Quiksilver, and won't work well for Fender.

The last time I went to the local music store, they did not have a single new Fender. Guess what I didn't try, and didn't buy.

I would definitely give out free shirts for users of the Fender Forum.

I'd like to give each of you a MIA Std, but ... uh ... I need to make my earnings target for the quarter. Sorry, maybe next fiscal year...

I know what RoHS compliance is. What is wrong with solder?

I assumed that Fender, or any company that sells directly to the public, would take measures to ensure that they are NOT in competition with their own retailers. Unless the goal is to move towards 100% direct sales, I don't see the logic in competing with the people who are selling your products.

One gripe I've heard from more than one local friendly Fender retailer is not being able to keep enough in stock because there are so many choices. Take the American Standard as an example. If a retailer wanted to have one of each in stock - and if my math is correct - he would need space for 32 guitars and this is just for one model.

American Standard (6 x 2)
American Standard HSS Shawbucker (5 x 2)
American Standard HH (4 x 1)
American Standard Left Hand (3 x 2)

Cheers!

I would give all of the dedicated forum members here a
nice token of appreciation - maybe a Fender mug or keychain
or shirt. :D

I'd bring back Sunn amps that they bought the company and shelved. Plus, make sure they're done right, too.

Fender seems to have pretty much sorted out any guitar related issues they may have had with a couple of personal annoyances. I don't think I'd change much in that department except to maybe cull some superfluous models in favour of increasing the selection of colours. I do grow weary of the same five or six options over and over and over again. There should be at least some rotation.

The amp department is a different story. WAY too much emphasis on affordability and not nearly enough on quality and almost zero emphasis on historical accuracy. It makes no sense to me to meticulously recreate guitars and then only provide approximations and/or bastardizations of amplifiers.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
