When you next revisit the MIII, go straight to the basic 17 modeled amps! These are without any FX!

No they're not. They're all all FX, emulated digitally. Without any additional FX on top of that, perhaps.
Look again!

The 17 Basic Amp models in Memory Slots 83-99 each have their Four FX Banks (Stomp, Mod, Delay, Reverb) set to "Empty."

I thought I would update my post to let those who commented know I finally made it to my local GC yesterday (a distant mile or so from my house), and brought home the MIII V.2. Now the learning begins. But with the little bit of time I spent playing through it, I like it. Yes, a long way to go to get familiar with and tweek the setting. Thanks again to those who participated.... :D

"Look, honey, I bought us a Marshall end table for the living room!"

The real skill is when you manage to get her to suggest taking down the paintings done by one of her family and install guitar hooks instead. The trick to that was to make sure she was the one that picked a couple of guitars. Don't buy any guitar without bringing her, and pretend to be torn between a truly hideous guitar and a good looking one that you want. Ask her which one is the prettiest, and put the other one back with remorse in your eyes. Remind her often by complimenting her on helping you pick a very pretty guitar, and soon enough "Elk staring at sunset" by uncle Edgar will be down, and the guitars up on the wall.

Just be sure you're not confusing "taking her paintings down to make room for your guitars" with "taking her paintings and all the rest of her stuff out of the house because she's leaving your deadbeat musician a$s".

How could they contemplate not staying with all the truckloads of money we bring home from our playing? I even got a check from ASCAP once!
