This one was a surprise in numerous ways ... First off, I was not expecting any type of guitar at all. Second, I was not even aware the guitar I got existed. Third, I was SHOCKED at how good a guitar it is...

Some of you may already know this (I did not), but Keith Urban sells limited quantity of "starter pack" guitars on HSN. My wife got me one thinking that "it seems pretty good" and I can return it if I don't like it. Okay, I am FAR beyond starter packs, but I kept an open mind ... Besides the guitar, in the "pack" you also get a Keith Urban amp (yes, an amp too!), nice gig bag, his 'how to play guitar' DVD collection, guitar picks, extra strings, a solid-wood guitar stand, capo, etc., etc.

Look, I admit it is made in China - but HOLY CRAP, the guitar is SHOCKINGLY nice. If someone just handed you this guitar to play without you knowing anything about it, and then asked you how much you think it costs, you would give a number wayyyyy more than it actually costs (I know I did). I am blessed to have more than my share of nice Gibsons and Fenders, and I can honestly say that this Urban guitar is a quality instrument.
- Laminated neck
- Nice black binding on neck and headstock (with VERY smooth fret edges and overall fret work)
- Beautiful finish and wood grains front, back, neck and headstock
- Tons of inlay (neck, headstock and back)
- Solid-wood pickguard
- Nice "vintage bronze" finish on all hardware and pickup covers
- Limited Edition numbered plate (only 2000 made) on back of headstock (along with Keith Urban-signed COA)
- Perfect intonation right out of the box
- Nice "Grover style" tuners
- Excellent overall fit and finish

So, as far as Christmas presents go, this one was far better anything I was expecting...

Congratulations! Looks good!

(You might want to get the nut looked at - yours seem to have the G and B string dug quite deep into the nut, unlike the stock photo. If the strings are the right height, all that may be needed is filing the top a bit, which is cheap enough.)

Sometimes you can get really lucky with guitars like this. I have a First Act Tele knock off that I found at a TJ Maxx when I went shopping with my girlfriend for only $38 (couldn't pass that up, since it looked pretty cool to me :P ) and the neck on it and action are positively sweet. Smooth with no fret burrs or anything.

That sounds like a nice present you got. 8)

I remember seeing an infomercial about a similar Urban's acoustic guitar package. That guitar looked to be a good buy for what it was as well. Yours looks to be even better. Obviously, somebody was listening to Keith. Now they'll be listening to you. :D FSB

Excellent input. Thanks! (and to all the others for the nice words, as well!)

Good looking guitar, congrats! I like the aged bronze finish and even on the hardware too!

I played one of those at a pawn shop and was pleasantly surprised at the fit, finish, playability and quality of the guitar. If I had needed such an axe, it would have come home with me...but I was waiting, in order to buy something higher on the GAS list.

Congrats on your new guitar--Happy NGD!

Cool, enjoy.

It's a great gift...

I got one as well--sort of (Well an imitation cigarbox guitar--it's a lot of fun)

But my first guitar was a Christmas present years & years ago--still have it, still play it.
