I may have registered here some time ago, but I'm not sure I've ever posted here, so here goes.

I'm a lifelong Fender guy. After I got a Competition Mustang for Christmas as a kid, I've had a steady stream of Strats, Teles, amps and even acoustics ever since. It's too bad I never kept anything over the years.
Nowadays you might consider me a "Modern Player", although the Who song Substitute seems to be my theme. My Fender gear consists of a 91 Tele, MIM Strat, parts '56 Esquire replica, 90s P-Bass Special. Even my amps are modern substitutes for vintage pieces - Custom Vibrolux Reverb, Super Champ XD, Bandmaster VM, and a "vintage" 90s Deluxe 112.
But it's all serviceable gear, suited to my playing skills, and I'm able to extract my sound out of it all.

I'm particularly excited about my Christmas present to myself - a Starcaster in natural maple. It'll replace an Epiphone Dot that I've never found inspiring.

Welcome to the forum.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Wow! I guess I have been registered here for awhile. I noticed my registration date in my post. Back in 2007.

BTW, does the Starcaster MP have a following here? I'd love to find out how other owners are using theirs and what mods they've done.

Welcome SwampYankee...heck of a moniker you got there! Sounds like some good gear, you should post some pics.

Welcome to the forum Swampyankee,

Like you, I got rid of a lot of vintage gear I used to own. Among the guitars I got rid of was a 1977 Starcaster , The body was red, and the neck maple. I never did like the deep "U" profile of the neck. That was the same reason I got rid of my 1978 Telecaster Deluxe just a few years ago. Rather than modify the guitars in anyway, I sold them. The original Starcasters did have a very unique tone to them though, very well suited for Jazz and Blues music styles. It was perfect for playing songs like "Town Without Pity." (Gene Pitney). I have to admit, I do miss the Master Volume knob on the original model.

Welcome to the Forum, and Merry Christmas too. Congrats on the new Fender 6 stringer also.

Good to have you here swampyankee. Nice Christmas gift. Beats a tie or pair of socks, huh? (Unless you're like me and your socks get holes as fast as Swiss cheese). FSB

Yeah, it was a guitar Christmas all around. Even though the Starcaster was a present to myself, my wife shopped for me at GC. Fender t-shirts, guitar stands, even a guitar beer glass!
