That's not flattery. It's like a bombshell girl wearing a Texas belt buckle.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the best sounding Tele I've ever heard. Though the one I tried wasn't the best playing.
The Fretking Jerry Donahue.

I had one in years back for some fret work, from the local shop. The neck coupling to the body is about the best I've ever seen. I defy any set neck fanboy to tell me they get more wood to wood contact. The fret ends were sharp, not sprung, just carved sharp.

As for flattery, this goes back to my point on the "If you were Fender CEO for a day" thread.
People want these tried and true classics and that is about all they want. They've been copied in some way since their inception. Even the Strat was a progression from the Tele. Marketing people approached Tele players and said "how can we improve on this?".
Some would still argue you can't beat the humble Tele. I wouldn't tell em their wrong.
If you want to be really pedantic about it then the FMIC Tele is a copy of the original FEIMC creation.

There is very little under the sun that is new.

Wonder if his Vintage JD plays similar for a few hundred less, stick SD's pickups and wiring in and still save a couple hundred at least, don't know if pickups are off the shelf or custom though. All about the price tag with me Nick, a right skinflint.
