Speaking of Peavey, I use to have a Peavey Tele copy back in the 90's. It was called a Predator, or something like that. It was built in the US, so it was before they went overseas with their production. It actually was a decent guitar, too. I got it with some package deal with a Rage 158 amplifier.

Peavey makes some very good instruments amplifiers and speakers Paul. I have a Peavey cabinet that sounds great, not a Fender but tough as nails. The main thing about the tele-clones I have tried is they sound really good just like any of the manufacturers guitars though they can't match the Fender Telecaster sonically IMHO YMMV (To quote my favorite Martian).

Oh yeah, I've used Peavey stuff off and on for years. My first bass was a Peavey Fury bass from 1982, then I got a 1977 Fender Jazz Bass. This was in the late 80's, and that cost me $450. Now I see them around the $2000 mark, but then again $450 was a good chunk of change almost 30 years ago, it seemed. I've also had a few Peavey amps along the way, as well. A Mark IV half stack and a 450 watt Databass combo amp, which was my first "real" bass amp. I needed it because a friend who was a guitarist that got me into playing bass in the first place had a 130 watt Peavey Special combo that he loved to use the volume knob on. Needless to say, we were pretty loud. :P

At GC today I played several of my favorite Telecasters. The one that stands out with the 3 Tex-Mex pickups is attractive to me. I'm thinking.

On December 31 I posted this "At GC today I played several of my favorite Telecasters. The one that stands out with the 3 Tex-Mex pickups is attractive to me. I'm thinking."
I'm not sure yet whether to trade one of my guitars or buy it outright.
Any way, if anyone finds a telecaster copy post it here.

I get that this is a collection of Tele copies, but a short story for everyone.

I have a friend who just loves the Tele tone, and he kept badgering me to go with him and check out this Blade guitar. I finally relented because I was trying to convince him to just buy a Tele if he wanted that tone. Well when we get to the store he makes a bee line for the Blade, and as we are walking over to the try out room, I walk right past a lightly used '52 Reissue Tele, so I grab it and tell him we need something to compare it to. Well, he played the Blade and was slobbering over how pretty it was (Three Toned Sunburst) and I asked him how he liked the tone...he said it is nice. So I hand him the Tele, and he plugs it in and hits an E chord and goes WHOA! It just had an incredible tone...needless to say he bought that Tele on the spot. He thanks me every time we get together to jam and now he calls me his Fender Rep!

I have yet to play a Tele Style guitar that has that Tele tone...not that they are bad guitars, but if you want a Fender tone, just get the Fender and be done with it. OK I feel better now.

I have to admit that one of the best teles I ever tried was a G&L ASAT Bluesboy. The combination of a ceramic Leo Fender bridge pickup and a Seth Lover neck humbucker gave it a certain something. And looks, well I don't think there's anything to complain about there:

I'm sitting on the fence on whether to buy one or not, but I already have three Teles, and the one I like the least was a gift I have to keep.
The ASAT is good, but is it $1800 good?

Cool story T2. And right to the heart of this thread. I have only played a few copies but none sounded or played like the real thing. They may look good and sound good the people making them are obviously trying very hard, congrats nice try. I'm just upset with self for waiting all of this time to replace my Fender Telecaster. Too soon old, too late smart.

Art, I like them too. $1800 for a Leo original doesn't seem excessive. But I prefer his original design, a better player all a round IMHO YMMV (to quote our favorite Martian)

Wow, file this under coincidence, but the other Tele style guitar that friend of mine has is a G&L Leo signature. I must admit, one of the best playing feel wise Tele's I have ever played, but...it still just doesn't have that original Tele tone!
