I played one of these and really loved it! I would have a lot of fun with it! This is kind of in your price range (excluding shipping):

PS No relation to seller, just found it on the internet.

I would throw another vote in for a Yamaha acoustic. I have one that was right around 200, sounds very nice.

+1

Yamaha has, by far, the most experience of any instrument manufacturer in making musical instruments. It shows, in that you can hardly ever find a bad Yamaha anything. Their cheaper guitars might not be studio grade, but they are certainly not bad.
They might not be as visually stunning as a Luna or fill the room like a high end Takamine, but in the sub-$1000 range, Yamaha should always be a consideration. They know what they do.

Okay guys, here is what I did yesterday. I told my wife that I have enough guitars and that not to buy me one for X-Mas. Instead, we still went to Guitar Center where they are having a sale on Fender DG-60's in Natural for only 99 bucks. So we bought one and ended up donating it to one of our local charities where they send out X-Mas gifts to the less fortunate. That is what the true spirit of X-Mas is all about folks.
