Not to take away from the OP but thanks for the video. Not a big fan of Epiphones in general but I can appreciate a good guitarist regardless of what he is playing. 8)

Hi KB, nice looking epi, I'd given up on my own sheraton a while back, wasn't really bonding, grainy feel to fretboard, no matter how much lemon oil applications I gave it, still felt that dried out grainy way, plus a few other niggles put me in a get rid mood. Then your thread pops up, had to have another look at it, youtubed this guy WOW, slapped a tiny drop of furniture wax on fretboard ( any other suggestions?) and just feels different guitar completely, frets still feel as though they could do with a tidy up. And when I think about it, for the price it's great looking guitar that could be a great guitar with a little tlc, enjoy your sherry, and here's the vid on youtube, had his stolen shortly after making the vid, don't know if it's bog standard or modded but sounds great.

it's hard to say if the pickups were changed, but if it's a PRO II there would be no need to change the pickups,
they are fine right out of the box.

I had a sheraton II some years back (15 or so) and those pickups were no where near as good as the new Pro II with the Probuckers. better hardware all around on the new ones.

For conditioning the rosewood, I use a product called Guitar Honey, this re-hydrates the fret board wood. There's a few similar products out there, (Dunlop has a lemon oil that a lot of guys like) some people even use raw linseed oil. Guitar Honey and the Dunlop Lemon oil. is available online, not expensive, and a bottle will last you a long time, you only need to apply it about once every 6 or 7 months. Just spray some on a small piece of cotton rag, and rub it into the rosewood. let it soak in for a bit, then using a dry clean strip of cotton and buff it out. this should re-hydrate the fret board. (just as a warning, Don't use anything other than a product that is made for guitar fret boards, as most contain some alcohol which will interact badly with the glue used to seat the frets.)

Setup on mine out of the box was ok, but since I do a lot of my own setup, detail work, I did do a leveling pass on the frets, there were a few high frets that needed to be dressed down a bit. After that was done, I was able to set the action where I usually prefer it to be, and it plays real good. I like it quite a lot.

do you still have yours? is it a Pro II?

{The guy in the Utube vid is a great player. He'd make anything sound good, he ripped it up on Southbound with that sherry.}

Hi again KB, yeah still have it, not the pro model though. Was using dunlop lemon oil but after having another look at it, found it was the truss rod giving off background noise being loose inside neck, playing unplugged especially, also frets are in need of à bit of dressing closer look at them in certain light I can see they were never dressed much if at all to begin with, rub with some steel wool seems to have smoothed them out for now, also removed scratchplate. Before all of that I filed the sharp edges off the nut.
Actually took first one back as neck had warp in it, anyway all good now and getting better, fret leveller and fret files and I think its now à keeper.

depending on the year of these, you sometimes have to give them a bit more TLC than others.

even the newer ones need some fine tuning for sure. Mine plays a lot better after spending a few hours addressing the frets. Not quite to the extent of my swingster royale.. had to do a lot of detail work to get that one in the "zone"..

sigh, tanks arth, yes I was a long time member of the Epiphone forum and know quite a bit more than that about the company. Dang I knew I should have taken the time to type an Epsilon. :roll: :lol
I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds those kinds of never-ending little nitpicks deeply annoying. Personally, I find it to be just millimetres away from trolling. In fact sometimes I think that's his intent; to troll without actually crossing a line. I can envision it being one possible reason a few folks post less frequently than they used to.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Posting trivia, clearly marked as such, is trolling, but consistent ad hominem attacks that border on obsession is not?

Here's another piece of trivial factual information: If you don't want to be annoyed by seeing someone's posts, go to the user control panel, go to "Friends & Foes", choose "Manage foes" and enter the username there. It beats the heartburn from compulsive bile reflux.
