When ever I hear the term "Black Friday," I think of two things, the Steely Dan song and the fact I'm glad I no longer work in retail. :P

I got an invitation to a Black Friday pre-event today at Guitar Center.
But checking a bit, they have turned up a lot of prices, so they can sell at a Black Friday Sale for the same or slightly more than what the prices were before.

Then there was a 15% off coupon. That excludes almost all brands, and anything that is on sale.
I happened to be interested in one guitar that by miracle wasn't on the exclusion brand list (Fender and Gibson obviously are). But when I subtracted 15% from the price, it was around 20% more expensive than at another store who also included the manufacturer hard shell case.
Another was marked as "on sale", and thus ineligible. But costing more than the street price a few weeks ago, when it wasn't on sale.

No, I won't be going. And I'll be much more careful actually comparing prices - both to other stores, and to what they were before and are likely to be again once the season is over. The printed Sweetwater catalog is valuable - keep it for a few months, to see what the prices used to be, and what has been price bumped in order to create a "sale".
