New Pickups Day

I recently acquired a trio of Fat 50s and this evening I installed them in my Koa Top Strat. (the one pictured below)
I had the Dimarzio Areas in it and they are pretty much the best sounding silent singles I've ever heard but they're still not single coils. I'm kind of on a blues kick recently and they sure do the trick for that. Definition, chime, quack and spank out the wazzoo. The Kinman K9 harness is still present and it gives me 9 combinations of configuration, which I have always loved, particularly the TELE style neck/bridge combination. So useful. I've been pretty busy with work and also around the house so I haven't had much time for the toys but I have time this weekend to mess around.

I don't know how long the F50s will stay in this guitar. I tend to run f/x boxes for rock and I haven't tried them with my board yet. Time will tell if I can live with the noise or not.

I also gave the Boogie RK a more comprehensive test flight than previously and also at a higher SPL. This is certainly a big amp with a big sound and it definitely lives up to all my expectations.

Me happy!

Also on the to-do list for the weekend, make a few mods to my Partsocaster. Gonna go with another Kinman harness, already in hand and will also install a slightly hotter bridge bucker than the one currently in place.

Heya, BMW-KTM. You might wanna lay back and rest up before you tackle the weekend. Looks like you're in for a heaping load of fun. Have a great weekend. Let us know how you made out and your take on the sound changes.

I'm one step behind you. I decided to take the DiMarzzio's out of my partscaster and put the Fat 50's back in. But I'm going to change it up by putting an SD Pearly Gates Trembucker in the bridge.
I don't really have a noise issue with the Fat 50's, but I do with my P90 Tele. A Boss NS2 on my board takes care of that. I have the NS2 hooked up in an X pattern that covers the FX loop also. Zero noise and transparent to my ears.

So the Partsocaster updates are complete and I am happier with the guitar as a result. There was something not quite right with the blend of pups I had in it before and even more than that I think the uncommon wiring scheme I had chosen was hampering it as well. Now that the bridge bucker is hotter and the wiring is closer to traditional (with the addition of a few more options) the pups work together better now as something more closely resembling a cohesive unit. My original purpose for the uncommon wiring was to attempt to preserve as much traditional quack as possible in positions 2 & 4. Somehow it just didn't work out like I'd hoped and I actually hear significantly more quack now than before. I also made a cosmetic change and installed some cream coloured barrel knobs in place of the chrome barrels I had on it before.

Please forgive the crappy picture ... bad lighting, low res.

I am loving that Boogie more and more every time I turn it on.
My poor Rivera is in danger of being dethroned from it's 7 or 8 year reign as my number one.

Mean lookin' machine there BMW-KTM. Thanks, for the pic and update. Glad to hear the pickups and install are a better blend. I'm not sure if it's a science or luck when that works, maybe a bit of both with a little personal preference thrown in for a closure. But, it's sweet when it does give the desired result. Congrats on a job well executed. 8) :D Cheers!

That's a fine looking guitar. I don't think I've ever seen one like it!

If you missed it, there's a build thread somewhere around here. I'll see if I can find it. We haven't seen many build threads lately so it might be fun to look at it again.
