I've never been able to resist any longer than 5 minutes after the doorbell rang.

Hey, treloc:

How are you and your new Strat doing? Hope it's working well for you.

Did you ever open the box?
Love to see what was inside.
Maybe it never happened?

Can't speak for the OP, but I have an unopened box with a guitar in it here. For three weeks now.

I'm also notorious for not opening birthday and holiday presents on time, enjoying the suspense and mystery. In one case, it took a couple of years (unknown to the giver, of course - I don't want to be rude). And yes, all the enjoyment I had of wondering what it was by far exceeded the enjoyment of the present itself.

I suppose if it was helpful to him and someone else, it is worth it.

I have wondered in the past what kind of time I should give an instrument to acclimate to room temperature when it's been sitting in winter chill for a few hours.
My wife and I both work, so if I have something delivered there is normally an hour or two that the package will sit in the cold. I usually open the box, and leave it sit open for atleast a day.
Most places you can order instruments from have a 30 or 45 day policy on returns, so you have plenty of time to inspect the product for faults and damages should you need to return it.

It IS hard though...as it's been said there are those of us that get so excited, you just want to play with your new toy immediately...and there are those of us that would rather wrap it up and wait until the "big day". I tend to be the 'let's play' guy...but I'm strong enough to let it sit, because I want it in the best condition possible.
