So much progress was made, shelves stained/poly'd and installed. Put a couple of my favorite beer lights in there, Moosehead neon and Budweiser bass, got the stereo hooked up, the guitars are hanging and the drum set is in.

Now to finish the move in and clean up so photos can be taken. 8)

Don't expect a collection like Rhumba though, that dude has a ton of nicely displayed stuff.

So the room is basically done, there's some more photos to hang up etc but for now I can go into my room and play, read, just relax. I guess the definition of a "man cave" is up to the individual. I know Arth commented that he doesn't need to retreat or hide out to play or practice. That's cool, totally his outlook on the situation. But to me, I wanted a cool place to go where I wasn't disturbing my wife or daughter, while they're doing their thing I can do mine. The room is in the basement on the opposite side of the house from the upstairs bedrooms, and when I built it for my son in 2006 it was well insulated so he could play tunes or games. Now I can take advantage of the space that my son is out in the real world.

So here's some photos, I'm loving it, hope you approve of the space. And the only guitar missing in the photos is my Fender Montara acoustic which is in a stand upstairs in the living room for easy "grab and play" sessions. My Kustom bass amp is under the stereo/tv and next to the speaker. No need to use my Line 6 300 watt'er in here.

This is the north wall before, that big art piece on the wall was airbrushed by my son and he won some awards for it based on the meaning and presentation....

Image

This is the north wall now.........took some time and effort to build the frame for that 8ft wide poster

Image

This is the south wall before, obviously my son was running out of room and getting ready to move out. I removed the closet doors and shelves.....

Image

After removing the closet and applying 2 coats of red/orange paint I have a place to hang my guitars. I also put in some new shelves on the left side of the closet for the tv/stereo/dvd/laptop hookup. I also wired in another outlet just above the ceiling tile to plug in the Moosehead neon and the Budweiser bass.

That's fantastic Kissfan, you've done a great job there, very pleasing decor, good guitar arrangement and a drum kit too. I like. 8)

You appear to have a lot of dresses in your man cave, WI KISSfan. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I especially like how you utilized the closet space to hang up your guitars and basses. 8)

Agreed - that adds an extra layer of safety from drunk visitors stumbling into them.

Thanks guys, appreciate the feedback. I thought using the closet seemed like a good idea, use the space with minimal amount of construction work involved.

Ok, I'll admit being confused by that? Is it in reference to the "retreat comment" thing. I only mentioned that because it seemed we just view the entire idea of a "man cave" in totally different ways. It was not meant to be offensive or a slap in the face to you at all. Hope that makes sense. The problem with online communication is it's too easy to be misinterpreted.

And at my age I'm too old to be a drunk friend or have any coming to my house. 8)

I wouldn't worry about snarky comments or the criticism of others, WKF. It's your inner sanctum and needs to serve no one but you. Personally I think you did a fine job on both the layout and the execution.

8)

I've lost count how many guitars I've owned. Let's see:
3 Les Pauls
about 12 Stratocasters
5 Telecasters
1 PRS
4 acoustic guitars
3 basses
1 Schecter
1 Vester ES335 Copy
1 ES335
1 Peavey T26

Currently I have:
3 Stratocasters
2 Telecasters
1 bass
1 Taylor
no man cave.

paris, out of your list, I can't imagine you don't kick yourself for letting go of the ES335. Was it just to bulky/heavy? Wha-happened?

The guitar looked and sounded great. It was beautiful flamed wine red. The problem lie in the neck. The guitar (like most Gibsons) would never stay in-tune. For reasons I barely understand, the G and B strings are notorious for not staying in-tune. Also, I never really liked the frets or the neck shape. The best ES335s I have ever played are from the '60 and '70s. The necks are slimmer.

I don't regret parting with the ES335. By-the-by, I'm kind of jonesing for a Les Paul Gold Top with P-90s.

Well tuning is job 1, if it couldn't be resolved I would dump it too.
