I love me some Flying Lotus. One of the cool things is that Anderson Paak actually sings/raps and drums at the same time.

I'm really getting a Prince vibe off this. Some of the harmonies/progressions are a little Jazzier than Prince though.

Rev, that has a nice groove. I'm learning, getting warmer.
Rufus locked in the funk early, having a Chaka helped.

I just stumbled across this and think it's probably one of the coolest Neil Young cover's that I've heard:

While I'm on the subject of funky/weird/soulful covers:

It's funny because I grew up listening to the originals of both.

In doing my research I found out that we share a birthday 9 years apart.

Must've been a great time, Rev’. Stan’s the man. Thanks, for the vid. Those guys were in the pocket. I’m partial to tablas ‘prolly cause I don’t have ‘em. Stanley never disappoints.

I think even Neil would have given thumbs up on Akshin’s Southern Man. Hard to say. He’s pretty stuck in his ways. Not to say his style doesn’t work for him ‘cause it does (or Randy who’s a little more, but not much more, into this genre methinks).

Swamp Dogg - Sam Stone. Good lyrics. He sings from the heart. Kinda like today’s Brook Benton, and I mean that as a compliment. Interesting album title.

Gramatik: Burning hot discovery. This album rocks. Interesting vocal in the beginning. Reminds me of Wanda Jackson’s vocal on “Let’s Have a Party” pitched up and presented in slo mo. Works though.

Persephone- We be dancin’ SBLS.

A few years back, I picked up this moderately rare album at a mall used record sale. Didn’t know this San Francisco band (named after their hometown riots). The album was recorded in Vancouver. Glad it’s in now my collection. HP Riot’s funky drummer played sessions with a gigantic list of who’s who from Sinatra to Dylan, Cher, Jackson, Bachman, Tina, Wonder. Loggins, Journey, and more.
