Hi, I seem to have a very complicated problem with a Fender security lock for my strap. After three, four times in use the little black pin broke off and leaves the lock tightly sitting on the bolt. The little channel where the pin sat and used to lift the lock is so narrow, that it seems impossible to reach in there to lift the rest of the pin - if there is any part left (you cannot see it). As my bass is an American Standard deluxe Jazz the strap holder is fixed and glued to the body, is very much obe piece with the body, and it would be apity to destroy that.
I would be happy and relieved, if someone has any idea how to get rid of the security lock. Thanks for ideas! Ruggero

Is this what you're wanting advice on? http://www.fender.com/parts/strap-locks ... ks&start=1
They're made by Schaller, and they're fairly rugged. They're also standard fitted parts to the American Deluxe models across the range.
I have them on my Am Deluxe Strat. I am surprised that you've managed to break the post on the straplock.

Have you tried drilling out the broken part.
The button isn't glued on at the factory, so once you've removed the straplock you should be able to unscrew the button to replace it if it's damaged by the drilling.

Thanks for your reply: I am not sure whether I broke it at all. Suddenly the strap opened (luckily enough when I was at home) and as a consequence that round head, with which you pull out the little pin, fell off with the screw and the bolt. The little black pin to which the head was fixed before lies now deep within the rest of the lock . I cannot reach it wirth any instrument I tried. So: no violence or force involved! Just a bad part ....

Maybe some pictures would help... but I agree, drilling it out should work. Or take it to a repair shop and let them figure it out ;)

Did you use the supplied washers?
I found them a pain to install underneath the threaded nut, but I persisted, and once I managed to get the threads to mate I used a ring spanner to properly tighten it all up.
There's no way this will open up unless something else fails.

You might have to hacksaw through the button, remove the stub of what's left, then grip the remains of the fixing screw with a mole wrench and unscrew it carefully.
Whatever happens you're going to damage some mechanicals, but thankfully they're not too expensive to replace.

Just for good measure I thought I'd dig out the video about installing strap locks.
It's close but no cigar - they show fitting the washer to the strap (which is necessary), but in my opinion they get the orientation of the lock wrong. Common sense dictates that the U mount forms a cradle to support the weight of the guitar , not fitted the thing from the side.
Look at my photo above.

Hi, a bass-tech could resolve the problem (get the lock off) with two pliers: a very thin one to get the pin a tiny bit out of its tunnel and a bigger one with which he was able to pull it far out enough, so the lock came of. No chainsaw necessary! Thanks for all your ideas and suggestions!

I'm pleased that you've got the immediate issue sorted out.
Are you going to get a replacement straplock? If you do persevere with fitting the washer - the straplocks are useless without it.

You could change out the straplock buttons for the normal ones Fender fit to the standard series, then get some bottles of Grolsch lager, drink the contents and remove the rubber bottle seals.
The seals fit tight on a standard strap button, and work just like the rubber Fender straplocks in the picture.

Once I discovered that D'Addario's Planet Lock line of Straps have a durable Strap Lock cam mechanism built right into the end of the strap, and that the Strap Lock work's on any standard guitar strap button, I went that way! It eliminated having to customize each guitar with a dedicated locking mechanism.
