Taking a guess here and say D'Addario would be likely since they use color coded ball ends on their strings. When I first purchased a pack of Fender strings I noticed the colored ball ends like all the D'Addario strings.

I don't think Fender has ever really made any strings. They cut, wind the bass strings, ball-end and package strings, but don't make the actual strings nor the wrapping.
Only a few companies do any work at all. Most of them don't even do the winding and packaging anymore, but outsource that to companies like d'Addario.

Most of the strings in the US are extruded by either Mapes, or one of the companies under the SSAB (Swedish Steel) umbrella.
d'Addario had a steel extrusion plant at one point, but I believe it too has closed down.

One of the few companies that make strings from extrusion to packaging is Thomastik-Infeld in Austria. They're some of the best strings you can get, but they also cost accordingly.

Yes, they're expensive but I think they're worth the expense. I had a set of T-I Jazz Swings (.011 flat wound) on my Strat for over a year. They still sounded good at the time of removal. I replaced them with Pyramid Gold flatwounds (also expensive) just to see if Pyramids are any good. The Pyramids are slightly brighter sounding; I hope they last as long as the T-I's.
