I'm planning some upgrades/mods to my 1987 American Standard Strat and am considering a wiring mod to enable me to select the bridge and neck pick-ups only at the same time. So, I'm thinking do I need to
get a push/pull pot or a push/push switch?

Fender has both these products showing in their guitar parts section.

As I'm clueless on wiring and mods I'll be enlisting the help of a pro to do the work but does either of these items work or is it a specific one I need?

Thanks :?

IMO this may work ;

1- Put your pickup selector switch in bridge position or in neck position

2 With the new switch, a normaly open contact must be wired to make contact ( a short ) at the pickup selector switch between the neck pickups and bridge pickup wires. This will connect both pickups together when you use this new switch.

Try running a blender pot http://www.fralinpickups.com/images/blendschem2.jpg

Saves having another switch on the pickguard :)

Both will work, your choice depends on drilling a hole or not for the switch. The push pull pot will leave your pick guard intact and keep the original look. Keep in mind that the push pull pot is longer and may require you to remove some wood under it. Since you are going to have a "pro" do the work, talk to them about it, they will be able to look at your guitar and give you better advice. This is a very simple mod and only requires a SPST switch of any kind. It will be a "Neck on" switch, when engaged the neck pickup will always be on regardless of the position of the selector switch.
