Hello. Suddenly no sound out of my baby and I have tried 3 different guitar cables, all top quality (Monster). When I wiggle the cable at the jack hole on the body I do get a lot of noise. What is the first thing I should check after the guitar cable? Thanks.

Check output jack . Remove pickguard , look a the jack , any broken wire ? Or loose contact , use guitar cable to see.

It is a easy fix cou can do .

Thanks. Took the pick guard off. All connections looked good. One of the two input wires looked like it was coming in contact with the cable jack when inserted. I moved that wire out of the way, tested the sound and all is back to normal. I didn't even have to do any soldering, worse send it in for repair and have to wait. It pays to buy a few really cheap basses on Ebay and practice working on stuff so when things do go wrong with your $$ Fenders you have an idea of what to look for and how to possibly fix at home. Also saves you a lot of money..

Thank you again. Yes, an excellent book to keep around. Full of good information that might save you from an expensive repair bill. I still though recommend getting at least one really cheap bass that you can practice things on. If you screw it up who cares. Consider it a learning experience. I went through more than a few EBay Chinese wonder basses primarily just to learn how to do stuff on my own. The right tools are also very important. Stewart macDonald on the web is a good place to start.

A search gets me nowhere so I'm replying to this topic as it is somewhat similar. I have a Strat with Vintage Noiseless pickups (correct pots, caps, etc.) that are wired correctly. I know this because all was going well (for three years) until the bridge pickup simply stopped working. I opened it up, checked and resoldered anything that didn't look shiny and checked all connections, but still no bridge sound. The middle and neck both respond to the volume and tone pots, as did the bride pup before it just wouldn't make any sound. I can tap on the magnets and get a little sound but not as full as the other two pups. If I wiggle the wire from the switch (pos. 1) to the pot it crackles a little. Any thoughts? I don't play this one very often so I doubt that the pot is dirty. Everything turns smoothly and the middle pup responds to the tone pot perfectly. Thanks.

That sounds like a damaged coil. Disconnect one of the bridge pickup's leads then use a DVM to check it for continuity. If the meter reads "open" you'll need to replace that pickup.
