These were taken out of a 2013 strat, but the shop owner didn't recall what model it was aside from it being US made and possibly a custom shop model. I was looking for a set of used Fat 50's, which these obviously aren't, but decided to give them a try for $60. Really nice tone and quite a bit higher output than my CS '69s, but now I'd like to figure out what they are. Research has turned up little to nothing so I thought I'd give the crowd here a shot at it. What do you think?

Non-beveled staggered magnets
PE insulated windings
Black fiber bobbins
Cloth insulation on leads
Neck = 6.01k
Middle = 5.96k
Bridge = 6.31k

Here's some pics during install

They look like my American Standard pickups, I don't know about ohms.

Custom shop may have some sticker or signature IMO

stratele52, thanks for the reply!

Your AM Standard pups should be Fat 50's if it's 2012 or newer. By everything I've read on those they should have beveled magnets and a RW/RP middle pickup with yellow and black leads. It would be great to know if you are seeing something other than this on yours.

Resistance readings should also be 6.0/6.3/6.2 on the 50's.

CS-54's should have formvar magnet wire and beveled pole pieces. The DC resistance is close enough but I don't think this is what they are.

No, the CS '54s do not have beveled pole pieces.

Shimmilou, that is interesting. Fender's description says "Staggered hand-beveled polepieces balance output across every string." However the poles in that photo sure don't look beveled. This wouldn't be the first time that I have seen something different in reality.

So in terms of output and pole pieces these sure could be CS 54's but the magnet wire is still in question. Formvar should be copper colored and PE dark brown/purple correct? Maybe Fender wound some with PE for non-retail applications?

They look like the Hwy 1 pickups, but looks can be deceiving.

Isn't the middle pup on the H1 set RWRP?
