Hi All

I hope someone will be able to assist with my question :)

I purchased my 1st American Standard Strat equipped with the Custom Shop FAT 50's, but I noticed that the pole pieces of the neck pup (below the E [low] and A string) are recessed / flush with the pup enclosure, whereas the middle and bridge pups E[low] and A poles are sorta just sticking out. The poles for the D,G and B,E[high] are identical on all three pups.

Is this normal, because from all the pics I viewed, I am pretty sure that the pole pieces on all three pups are basically identical.

Thanks :)

Maybe the pickup cover is not sitting flush with the base of the pickup.
You will have to unscrew the pickguard to have a look and compare it
with the other pickups. They should be the same.

Hi Matonaxe

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think this is the issue, because as mentioned before
the poles on D,G,B,E is the same as the other pups (well almost the same), but I do see where you are coming from and it could just be that the actual pup is just not "angled" or not fitted parallel to the casing.

Thanks for the insight, I will go explore some more 8)

Yes pickup cover raised on the low E side of pickup and not parallel is what
I was getting at.

Hi Matonaxe

Checked it out and actually the cover is fine and perfectly aligned with the pup, the problem is actually that the "waxy" black piece where the poles are housed in. They "cover" the poles more than usual so they are not sticking out as much as they should, but I figured I will just raise the bass side to compensate for this. It would have been an issue if the poles were actually pushed down, but thank goodness this is not the case.

Thanks for your feedback!

The fibre bobbins can swell a little in the wax potting process.
Nothing to worry about. Enjoy, they are one of my favourite pickups!

Awesome man! I love these pickups, especially since I have always used EMG's (81, 85)! I have now discovered a whole new world of tones from single coils, especially these ones!

All the best and thanks again for your wisdom :D
