As I understand the fender vintage noiseless strat or tele pickups were originally
Alnico 5. I purchased a strat neck pickup and a tele bridge pickup for respective
guitars. They were both advertised as Alnico 5 and in the new red packaging.
After talking to fender I was advised that they were in fact Alnico 2 and they even
sent me a bill of materials for the tele bridge pickup to confirm this. Yes they certainly
were correct and they advised me that the strat neck pickup was Alnico 2 in its respective bill of materials.

Anyone like to shed any light on when and why they changed the pole pieces to Alnico 2 ?

And yes they did update the specs on the website after that revelation but still
appear in the 2014 Product Guide as Alnico 5 and incorrect.

So I guess if they are in the original black packaging they would be the Alnico 5 Version as stated on the back.

If they are in the new red packaging they are Alnico 2 and not a mention on the packaging.

Just thought this might help someone out who is considering a purchase.

A2...Less bass, less overall tightness in tone, more mids, highs very slightly less..The mids seem to dominate a bit more over the lows and highs...The A2 magnet does different things in different pickups and in a "Hybrid" pickup acts like an A5..

A5...Tighter sounding, good percussive palm muted notes that retain clarity, bass seems stronger as does the highs..Mids have a more scooped tone, more output or a sense of higher output from the things mentioned..YMMV and this is just my opinion.
