Love these things. They replaced a set of 1994 (or 3, I don't remember when I bought that thing) Am. Std. pickups. Less noise and a sweet sweet tone. Highly recommended.

They are a little bit of an acquired taste to me. I always felt they sounded kind of clinical/sterile until I played my DPS through a 1960's Danelectro Silvertone and was stunned by their sound. My first preference from the current line up of Fender PUPs is the Fat 50's, then The Texas Specials. But after hearing the VN's through the Danelectro I've acquired a taste for them.

I was looking at the Fat 50's (and dimarzio areas) but I took a shot at winning the VN's on ebay. Bid $81 and the $80 bid never went over the top of me. $82 would have done it.

They are certainly better than the pickups that were in the guitar. I also learned to lower them compared to the originals. Seems to sweeten up the tone quite a lot. They are also the best pickups I own through my H+K's drive channel.

My favorite pickups are my Domingers. But they are insanely overwound. Not what I wanted for my am. std.

Oh, and that guitar now has a new neck (the original pretzeled) and new pickups. It needs a new 5way soon and I want locking tuners and might put on a new pickguard. I really can no longer call it an am. standard. I need a name other than partscaster because that destroys value.

Like these also, been using them in an Amer. Dlx Tele since '03.Recently swapped out the neck pup and slapped another right back in there. To me these pick ups are a nice middle of the road sound, nice blend.I think the quietness of them helps me hear more of the actual string,I like that.I agree, you can get a nice singing from them. These are all pluses for me and never felt the need to swap them out.
